The Inevitable 2021 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

Hard to see that Cat goes to Innova, if she does she will not even be the highest rated FPO player on that Team

DD, do she want to "fill the slot" after Paige P?

But i do wonder if Innova and Discraft will trim their teams in 2021. .

Do you need THAt many players on the team?
But maybe not totaly "ax" the team like DD did...but i think o few team will trim of a few players in 2021. . . . cut a few less known and ad one big name

Business could be better, if they had more to sell. . .most brands are "out of stock" . . hard to even find a bag.

It snows 5 to 7 months there....

Depends on whereabouts in Finland. Go north enough and you can enjoy that. Too south and you will have a prolonged, rainy and dark autumn for about 6-7 months, maybe some sprinklings of sleet here and there.

2 degrees above zero is way worse than 2 degrees below zero, believe me

Out of the original Prodigy team Will, Cale, and Cat are the only ones still with them correct?

I want to think Seppo and Ragna were added a couple months after the initial group? Paige, Cat, Will, Cale, Ricky, Jerm, Uli, Nikko, and GG?

Colglazier and Matty O both joined later and both left only to return. Not sure exactly when Dickerson joined but it wasn't at the very beginning. KJ is only in his second year with then after Prodiscus?

Anybody else worth noting that was sponsored by them at one point?

Ah man, I was going to post the hoodie posse pic and have people guess who's who :D

Yes I remember. Pro-di-gy! Pro-di-gy! Also sign your score card! Sign your score card!

Cat mentioning her contract being up at the end of the year doesn't imply anything.

I'm sure with Paige at DC Innova would be interested in having Cat. If she's happy at Prodigy an offer from Innova would only help negotiate a better deal.

Floating the idea out there doesn't mean anything necessarily...she's just promoting her own brand trying to maximize income.

She's not going anywhere, at least that's not how I heard it. She mentioned her contract being up because she wants to settle down, buy a house and get off the road (she said all of this in that interview), and that she has current contract obligations that run in conflict to that.

What she is talking about is probably a new contract with Prodigy that has less obligations. Probably a lot less lucrative, but the tradeoffs are probably becoming worth it. She's been on tour for a loooong time, I think as long as Paige has (10 years?).

Ahh a logical response using context and reasoning so no doubt it will get buried under the inevitable whoo haha of this thread. :\

All joking aside this is line with my opinion. Nothing wrong with her doing the adult thing and start working on her personal goals in life. I hope she does well!

I remember playing in an A tier back in 2011 that Cat played in so she has def has a solid decade of touring under her belt.

Competing at the upper professional level requires such dedication, stamina, effort, and on and on. Not many people want to stay in the groove for more than 10-15 years. It's hard to think of Catrina and Paige Pierce as being veterans in the FPO, but they certainly are.

I'm guessing she is going to retire.

I'm guessing she is going to retire.

Obviously, I don't know Cat's intentions.

But I imagine it is something closer to what Elaine King does now. Play more events closer to home, and be selective about the larger events you're willing to travel to that require a bigger invest of time to prepare for.

Or, to put it in tennis terms - at Roger Federer's and Serena Williams' point in their respective careers, they don't have to play everything, nor do they even try. They play the events they choose to, and their arrangements with their sponsors would take this into account.

Cat is a big name in the sport; she can negotiate a deal that is beneficial to her needs.

Business is booming, why trim them?

Is there any relationship between the booming and pro sponsorship? Will there be any relationship to new players continuing to play and their awareness of the pro game and sponsorships?

The sport is probably closer than it has ever been to manufacturers being able to have a slice of the market apart from pro sponsorship. I would be interested in knowing what DD's disc sales have been this year. On the flip side to my argument, DC has pushed a ton of plastic thanks to Paul.

So you're saying there's a chance you won't??

Exactly what I was thinking. Guess he's going to have to learn Champion or Star Stingrays to try to replace the Comets. :p

I have only ever thrown one Comet a grand total of two throws. My Champ Stingray (Not Super Stingray) seemed to fly very similarly in that tiny sample size.

I don't know, and I doubt the manufacturers know the exact impact of pro sponsorship on their sales, but I would expect there to be a catalyst for a significant change. I'm not saying the booming sales numbers will necessarily push manufacturers to sign more pros but I doubt even more that it will push them to reduce their team size.
