Do you wash your discs? How often?

The aluminum handle of my DD cart started reacting with my skin and giving a black film that was transferring to white putter plastic. I wrapped the handle to stop the spread, but haven't washed the putters. (I understand boiling water can soften the plastic, not talking about that, just warm tap water and light dish soap.)

How often do you wash your discs with soap and water, or do you only wipe them down with towels? I think I'll try to wash off all the bad luck.

I sometimes use chalk to enhance my grip, especially when it's really hot here in Arizona.....so I keep a wet cloth to wipe the chalk off the discs every couple of throws. But other than that and cleaning dirt clumps off the disc, I really don't wash them much.

Somewhere back ?last year? I did a poll on this. Opinions were mixed.

I feel like, especially with premium plastics, and extra especially with a new disc, that the grippiness tends to go down when it isn't clean, the more the oils from your skin transfer to the disc. I imagine opinions on the subject may vary somewhat based on how dry the skin of the person is.

So, I'll wash the discs if they seem like they aren't grippy enough. And that's more likely after a bunch of rounds in the summer.

After every muddy/rainy round where your towel looks like it went through war.

Every dozen or so "perfect weather" rounds.

Before every tournament.

Throw discs in tub, turn on water to hottest, use soap (simple stuff not body wash/processed _____), let soak for a few minutes once all submerged, drain, rinse, wipe off. I always rinse/wipe off dyed discs first just in case...don't want them to bleed more than necessary.

After every round, or field session. I share in cleaning the dishes, so I have access to the kitchen sink. Used to use the hottest water I can stand, now I just use luke warm and a little dish soap. I hate the feel of dirt and grit so a dirty disc doesn't feel right. If I had the chance to play on a grassy course I might not need to wash them.

Hmmm.......water hazards? Sounds like those conspiracy theories I hear about there being entire bodies of fresh water, large as a city or even a state. They call them lakes I think.....pretty sure they don't exist. Here in California we got sand and rock and this green stuff that rich people place in front of their houses :p

(ignore that I waste water washing plastic)

So, I washed most of my bag last night traversing the stream for the third time on Hole #1 at Harmony Bends....Found my putter pouch kinda holds water....

IIRC, the stream that winds through #1 pretty easy to fish discs out of. Fade.left on #13, and forget it.
Creek on #18 is tough to retrieve 'em from, too.

I slipped on that 3rd crossing, after retrieving a disc out of the stream. Lower half of the bag got a wash.....I got wet from the knees down and a sore right knee...not the best way to start a round....

Posted in the poll thread—as needed.

If the bag stinks, clean it.

If the discs feel gritty, wash them.

I managed to only find the the creek on hole 18. Tried for the record but fell short with only 3 baths. Actually lost my disc on my drive which I thought was perfect, it wasn't. Proceeded to see the biggest snake I've ever seen looking for it and called it good. :p

Found the drink two more times after. Didn't get bit by an anaconda though, at least that's what I assumed it was.
