DG Vocab List - Fun or Catchy Terms

That is amazingly comprehensive. How about wormburning for a turfed drive that just (unintentionally) skips down the fairway?

Hi ehillis...small world! I found your site the other day via reddit (and gave your link +1). I really enjoy the articles!

Thanks JConnell! I really appreciate it! That is pretty funny though, I guess the world of disc golf isn't all that big. It's certainly growing though!

Q it up!!!

This means stepping up to the tee pad with no warm up and ripping your drive down the fairway and parking it under the basket.

Canadian Girlfriend

"Canadian Girlfriend" - throwing an ace or an amazing shot when you are out on the course by yourself.

Obviously a reference to Sixteen Candles. This one came up when we were throwing our home course the other day, and I mentioned I had an amazing throw on a hole we were currently shooting, and my buddy replied "Yeah, and I bet you have a really hot girlfriend, but she lives in Canada".

Also use "Tombstone" (as an earlier poster listed) for those discs that stick edge-on into muddy/soft ground. And the previously-posted "Lumberjacking" for when you keep hitting trees.

Another term we use on heavily wooded courses with many small-ish trees, when someone throws an overhand/tomahawk throw and the disc magically weaves between many small trees as it turns over, without hitting any: the "Millenium Falcon", just like when said spaceship is flying through the asteroid field in "The Empire Strikes Back".

These are great...I guess my DG vocabulary has been incredibly boring (until now)

When I saw the pic of the guy who got merked, I almost choked on my tea...lol

I've been merked once and I've seen a black ace once....both were done by a friend of mine I introduced to DG and both were within his first couple months of playing...now I have to inform him of the proper descriptive terms for his "skill"

Black Ace - Keep in mind bro, he can still call it a hole in one, just not an offical hole in one. :D

These aren't really 'terms' but phrases that my friends and I used to always say such as, "That would've been in if it wasn't for that tree." It was especially appropriate when the tree was 10 feet from the tee box.

Then there are the ever infamous words you never want to hear, "It's still your shot."

That one really made me chuckle. :D So I added it to my list under the new category "Phrases".

I can really relate to it on our wooded NC courses. One time (at Cedar Hills #5) my drive hit a tree 50 ft from the tee on an uphill fairway, then it landed on edge and rolled back down the hill 5 ft behind the tee box! Another time, at Sedgley Woods in Philly, on a back 9 hole I threw a tomahawk from the tee that hit a tree 40 ft away and bounced straight back 6 feet behind the tee pad! I wish I'd had this phrase then!

Terms

Cool. Was working on a DG clinic manual and had a glossary will pick out the juicy ones and stick 'em in there!

Tree Love – A throw where the discs hits a tree and it actually helps your throw.

Tree Hate - A throw where the disc hits the tree, and it actually makes the throw worse for you.

Sandbagger - A player who plays in a catagory below his/her level in order to beat the easier competition.

Stick Disc- when the disc sticks in the ground

Intercourse- two or more disc land close to each other

Tree love/hate

Suprised this wasn't on here already but:

Helicopter - A shot that needs to come straight down at the end without curving. Usually preformed with a putter.

Does anyone know of a term for hitting the chains from a tee-pad but NOT getting the ace? This happened to me yesterday and I've been trying to think of a term to describe the emotional roller coaster that it took me on. I literally jumped and yelled with joy when I heard it hit, then cursed the world and everything in it when I saw it fall to the ground, then smiled and smirked the entire walk to the basket for my birdie putt. :D

I call it a "Nice Shot!" ;)

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but around here if you hit the chains and bounce out on your tee shot it is referred to as "kissing the panties"

This is going to sound silly, but when ever someone hits several trees with their disc before it hits the ground, we holler out " He's a Pinball Wizard."
