Critters on the course you ran into...

Hickory Horned Devil Caterpillar

Came across this guy last month while taking pix during our second monthly juniors tournament at my home course, East Roswell Park in Roswell, GA:

Apparently, they're harmless, and apparently, this wasn't even a big one. Those are regulation-size pine needles in the picture, and I'm estimating this guy at 4 to 4.5 inches -- it seems they can get up to 5 or 6 inches.

It was interesting to watch the reactions of the kids (this was the youngest group, mostly 6-8 year olds). Most thought it was cool if a bit scary, while some where obviously freaked out by it.

/\ This proves that looks can be deceiving! I would steer clear of this guy and let just let him be. Nice pic!

yeah. i like them too. I got covered with them while leading the 94 Winthrop Open. I just kept playing and won by 6 strokes. Everyone wanted me to quit and go to the hospital. Bee one with nature.

Don't have any pictures but we got within -10ft of 7 deer that were surrounding a basket @ big eau plaine and there were thousands literally of little yellow butterflies @ standing rocks in the parking lot.

A lone locust, on the final basket of Strong Arm. He fell off the pole when I made my putt and started walking around the base.

Last spring I was playing Hudson Mills in Dexter, MI.. Had a sidearm shot wind up deep in the woods. Upon my discovery of the disc, 3 feet to my right was a female deer giving birth to its young. It was quite the sight!

I will promise all that nobody has seen this....A 3 foot long Monitor Lizard on hole 2 at Alex Clark. This thing was amazing. It took off after I grabbed him and jumped off the ledge about 15 foot drop into the creek. I figure he will find the sewers and come back as Godzilla later...stay tuned

Not anything spectacular, but there was a herd of about 20 deer at Edgebrook last night, and they didn't want to move when we had to throw from the middle of them.

While cutting cross-country on foot to sneak into Bull Run Regional Park my friend and i saw a Chupacabra. It stared back for several seconds before disappearing into some heavy brush.

A Chupacabra at Bull Run? Me thinks it t'was but a rat! Besides, why would you go through all that trouble to play such a P.O.S. course?
