So far, this event is actually full already. With 90+ over 1000 and 39 rated 1020+, it will by far have the best field we've had face the monster to date.

Strong field in FPO also and hopefully by then, some of the Euro ladies can join the fun.

The links on the page aren't active yet but for anyone who wants to volunteer, you will be able to do so soon at this link...http://www.theidlewildopen.com/volunteer.html

At the time of this posting, IO is in Phase1 status. Updates will come, starting around 6wks before the event. Hopefully, it will change to phase 2 or even 3.

I hope this forecast holds or gets better. Looking a bit hairy on Friday but so far it says Sat and Sun will Sunny 80ish with low humidity and light winds...

It will likely be muddy in some spots either way. There's a 60% or better chance for rain everyday this week...

Well... If anyone in the Cincy region has some spare time and are willing, it looks like they need some more volunteers this weekend. The Live Scoring and Spotter slots have been filled for the most part but they have lots of spots open for crowd control/security/parking/"extra staff"

Anybody willing can sign up here...https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508084ba4a822a6fe3-idlewild2

While every hole that only needs one spotter are filled and iirc, every slot that uses two or more has at least one already signed up, if anyone wants to be a spotter, there are couple spots still open and you can sign up for those here...https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508084ba4a822a6fe3-idlewild

Holes still available... (all times eastern)

#6 Friday 8am-1pm
#8 Friday 8:30am-1:30pm
#12 Friday 9am-2pm
#13 Saturday 2pm-7pm
#14 Friday 9:30am_2:30pm & 2pm-7pm... Sunday 2pm-7pm
#15 Friday 2pm-7pm... Sunday 2pm-7pm

#16 This is the long open hole. Most of the early and late shifts all three days have spots open, though there are already multiple people signed up for each slot as this hole needs several people for each shift. Since it late in the round, other spotters will likely find their way over there after the cards have finished on their holes, so these might not be a priority for the slots that already have 3 or more signed up.

#17 Friday 9:30am-2:30pm... Sunday 9:30am-2:30pm
#18 Friday 9:30am-2:30pm

It's amazing how many people they have volunteer for these events. I didn't count them all but there are well over 150 spotter slots and only a couple dozen at most haven't been filled yet... and while quite a few people are doing multiple slots, that's still pretty impressive and i might add, quite needed at a course like this.

...and that's not counting the scorers, crowd control, parking, DGPT staff, check-in... etc

Well done by the local players, families and other random volunteers. Unfortunately, i won't be there as i am going out of town. Might be able to make it over there Sunday afternoon. We'll see

Volunteers are the backbone of disc golf. It is amazing how many folks give their time. As in the rest of life, there are those who do and those who talk.

I saw a LOT of new faces up here for DGLO this year. Hopefully, that translates downward to clubs, leagues and local involvement.

"Stay tuned for covid-19 restrictions update."
That is what is on the IO website.
As of yesterday Ky. has 104 of 120 counties in the red zone and a positivity rate over 10.
Hoping we can stay at phase 3.
Spectators can make good pro disc golf unforgettable pro disc golf. (Conrads throw-in on 18 at Worlds comes to mind.)

Nice... I was hoping Jomez would be at Idlewild. Can't wait for the mic'd up practice round vids...

A buddy of mine texted me that he couldn't drive anywhere in Florence, KY today without seeing a disc golfer's touring van somewhere.

I really enjoy this week of disc golf here in the local area.

I'll be there all day Saturday. 2 rounds of live scoring and a couple hours of spectating in between rounds.

Idlewild is presented by Dynamic Discs. I noticed each feature card has at least one member of their team on it.

Is feature cards made with votes? Or how does that work exactly.

There's some sort of formula for round 1 feature card, but I think it varies a little. It's usually the previous year's winner, sponsor's pick (so in this case whoever Dynamic Discs wants), and then from there it varies. MVP Open (Maple Hill, coming up shortly) usually adds in the winner from the A tier they hold a few weeks prior (or something like that). Sometimes DGPT picks someone as well. At some point a tournament did a fan vote to determine who was on feature card, but I don't think that's common anymore.

However they decide the feature cards I usually find them very compelling and fun to watch.
We know we are probably going to see +1030 players for the other rounds so it's really cool to see: rising stars, local stars, fan favorites in the 1000-1030 range, sponsor's picks, etc.

On Thursday night, August 12, Disc Golf Pro Tour staff was notified that a player in the Idlewild Open field-tested positive for COVID-19. The competitor also participated in the Ledgestone Insurance Open. Per the PDGA Elite Series COVID-19 policy, which Disc Golf Pro Tour follows, contact tracing has been implemented and testing has begun for all players who have come into direct contact (6 feet or closer for 15 minutes or more) with the competitor who tested positive. All players who are known to have been in direct contact have been contacted. The players who came in direct contact with the infected player will have to produce a negative COVID-19 test in order to compete this weekend. We are working with those players who have not yet been able to test in order to provide appropriate rapid-testing options for tomorrow morning in an attempt to allow them to play if they produce a negative test result.

I think this was bound to happen sooner or later.
It may be interesting to see how this ends up affecting this event.

Yeah, I'm amazed that in over a year I don't really recall any other reports like this?

Brodie's situation is a bit different because I'm assuming he was at home and wasn't out on the road when he found out and withdrew.

Any idea what "field testing" means? I haven't paid a lot of attention to any official Covid policies per the PDGA since I've not played any events, and policies seem to vary a lot among areas anyway. Random testing? Required if you don't provide your own negative results within a specified date range? Something else?

Seems crazy because I'd say most people at this point personally know a few people that have had Covid? And with all the travel to various parts of the country they've been extremely lucky.
