Playing with a friend last evening we were finishing a round at twilight. I threw my dyed champion roadrunner down a familiar wooded hole, and we watched it hyzer slightly at the end. At the basket we hunted, and hunted where we knew it must be and finally had to give up the search as it was getting too dark. Dejected, I drove home thinking I'd return in the morning to continue the search. When I got home I thought I'd return with a flashlight and my dog Riley. Pitch dark by this time Riley and I searched the area and sure enough I heard him pounce and bite on something. He proudly ran up to me roadrunner in mouth prancing like a hero. It was pretty awesome to watch.

Sweetness! He didnt put a hole in it did he? I had to teach mine the differance between my frisbees and his

No, he's pretty soft-mouthed. He's half golden retriever and half standard poodle, so he's quite a 'fetcher'.

Thats cool, my dog is like a kid and he gives me a kick all the time

That is a dog that I really could use. Sounds really like man's best friend for sure. Hope you gave him a good treat for that, preferably non alcoholic. = )

My dog retrieved a disc once for me....

...she then started to chew on it. Consequently, I now own a Buzzz that has a bunch of canine puncture marks.

with both my dogs i do disc dog competitions with, if they see any saucer like object they go crazy, if my dogs ever made it out to a disc golf course they would probably have heart attacks!

i do practice driving with a beat up xl with my dogs, its great when you can throw over and over and never have to go pick up your discs, plus a couple of bombs and the dogs are worn out for the day!

So is that a Labratriever???

That's a good dog!

Sweet! Mine will run after them but not bite- it just sucks I can never have her off the leash cause she's a rott (tail and ears intact). Not to thread Jack but I notice a lot of dog owners on the site- anyone ever been to/heard of some sort of animal rescue/humane society tourney- I think it would be a good look for our sport.

That's funny... My dog had his and wouldn't even think about touching mine. He chewed up some of my brothers discs though.

I played with a guy once whos dog would go get any stay disc from the woods and bring it back and drop it in the fairway doing the round. Don't know what the ruling is on that but I say as long as a person didn't move it is fair play.

my dog tries to eat discs. she goes crazy the whole round if she is around. It is torture for her not to chase the disc

You have to take the shot from where it landed. The group would have to get together and pick a point closest to where it was before it was moved. Its the same if someone on another card picked it up, go back to where it last was

All dogs should be fetchers!

I was out practicing in a park once, throwing half a dozen drives, walking downfield, turn around & do it again, when out of the blue this pit bull runs after my disc, chomps down on it and sits there looking satisfied with himself.

So me and the dog's owner get together and try to convince the dog to let my CE disc go. No luck. That dog was one stubborn s-o-b! Finally the guy said, "Look, why not dangle another disc over his head and when he lets go of this one to go for that one, we pull them both out of the way."

Sounded pretty good to me, so we tried it.

Needless to say, the dog's jaws were faster than our fingers, so now I had *two* CE discs with holes in 'em.

Well the guy said he'd pay me for the discs (which of course was the right thing to do) so I gave him my name and address and we shook on it.

(and now for chapter two)

Weeks passed and no check, so the next time I'm out at that park practicing, I go looking for him. I don't find him, but I do find his dog, and after a while he shows up too. I ask him whether he was going to honor his word and he gave me the following song & dance:

"Yeah, man, sure. I'm a porno webmaster and I ran into a little cash flow problem but it's all sorted out now. Want a check?"

I said sure, why not, and all's well that ends well, except that then he offered me a job ...

I tried getting my dogs to fetch discs, but they were totally uninterested. They like fuzzy stuff, like toys and tennis balls. And if it squeaks, you better be able to defend yourself, because they want it. They want it bad.
