Heading South and East (IA,MO,TN,LA,MS,AL,GA,NC,SC,KY)

F'in incredible, loved it. Not very conducive to course bagging, I was wiped out after that gauntlet, though I still pushed 2 more courses in afterward, and one before.

I have actually been taking notes this time, so you can expect to see reviews of all of the courses I'm playing, just not any time real soon.

lol, I made the mistake of saying "I'll just eat after we play West Lake". Oy Vey! It is a great course though. I'm looking forward to that review! Be Safe!

What State are you playing today?

west lake in iowa? how'd all that water and wind treat ya?

Well the water was frozen, so I took some bigger risks than I might have otherwise, got a couple of nice skips off the ice, and landed a couple deep out on the lake. It was definitely a bit breezy out there, but nothing I couldn't handle.

If the water is frozen, then it don't count! ;) (Me on #2 at West Lake. Throwing in heavy clothes adds to the challenge)

Nice review, looks like you had a lot of the same thoughts on that course as I did. Definitely one of the tougher courses I've played, while still being a blast.

Thanks! I definitely enjoyed it, one that's high on my priority list to get back to sometime, I'd like to see it in the summer. It was a gauntlet of a course one beautiful monster or a hole after another.

I noticed your review too had a lot of the same points (I swear I didn't copy it! I didn't even look at it until after I had played and taken notes, my notes look like the same as your review).

Ha, nice. We have reasonably similar games, and I've agreed with a lot of your reviews of other courses, so it's not that surprising that we noticed a lot of the same things there.

If you're in the Atlanta area on a Thursday or a Friday, I might be up for playing a round or two with you. You can probably figure out the best courses around here from the reviews, but please be aware that Flyboy has been closed to the public due to bad behavior by a few disrespectful disc golfers. There are still a couple of tournaments there this year, and it may be "opened" back up eventually, but in the forseeable future you'll have to miss it.

Isn't Flyboy open on an "escort-only" basis? My understanding is that if you can schedule a time to play with Kelly or another "Course Pro", you can play it. I'd suggest at least trying before bypassing it entirely.

You asked for it, here it is sooner than advertised. West Lake Review

Great Review! I had to laugh when you said strenuous. West Lake will wipe you out! When we left West Lake, we went to eat. We were only going to eat quick, and head out again. Well... an hour and a half later we finally had enough energy to get up and leave. I'd really like to see West Lake get some more recognition. It's such big course! Where are you at now?

I know I haven't been on here much as of recent weeks. What happened at Flyboy? ...or have they said?

(Second hand info:) Players not yielding to airplanes landing or taking off on the runway hole, or expressing their impatience at having to wait. Players getting too close to houses or trespassing into yards. And the general bad acting of a segment of the disc golf population.

Kelly had posted on the Atlanta discussion board that he reached a temporary agreement with the property owners; 2 tournaments a year, and all others must be escorted by Kelly or another course pro (of which there's only one). It's a 6-month trial to see how it goes.

I spoke with a player this weekend who told me has ambassador status and so has authority to play and escort players.....but also that he's pretty sure it'll end up closing for good. This second-hand, but from a very reputable source.

Now that's to bad! One would think that seeing a plane landing near you would warrant one to move. I hope that I can sneak in a round before it closes down.

Me too....but more immediately and relevantly, I hope our touring discgolfer who's thread this is is able to make arrangements and play Flyboy on his trip across the south.....and that he visits Stoney Hill and tells me just how desparately I need to schedule a trip to flyboy.

I'll definitely see what I can do, flyboy is on my list of priorities if I can swing it.

Where am I at? Currently outside of Baton Rouge, I'll play the courses in this area for the day and head back into NOLA for the night to play in the Pot of Gold Tourney Tomorrow. From there it will be East -> Mobile on Sun/Mon, ->Pensacola Tues, and North from there.

Try to hit Atlanta on a Wednesday, we setup a temp course @ Perkerson for Wednesday pickup league, its the only time the course is setup outside of tourney play. Your timing is good as we're starting it back up next week. Be there by ~4:30pm, definitely worth a stop.

I hear Perkerson is nice, but I have never had the opportunity to play there. If you're in town on a Wed. definitely try to play that one.
