[PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

Looks like at least McBeth will disregard the CC move and play the European swing anyway. That says a lot since he seems to be very Major focused these days:

And for context for the OP and the people Paul tagged in his reply, Mikael Svensson is the chairman of Ymergården, the course hosting the Swedish Open. Henrik Rydén is also in the board and the TD at Ymergården.

My guess (pure speculation though) is that Paul already had spoken to them and promised them he would come and play in 2024 and that he is going to keep that promise.

Given the pace of government work, non-zero chance the WR Jackson cutting doesn't begin until after the normal Champions Cup dates, right?

Whomever is responsible for the logistics and delivery side of this last few seasons is a bit of a clown, and doesn't understand that transporter technology is simply not available.

I wonder if he's getting paid an appearance fee.

Moving to April 25-28. *facepalm*
JFC. Willing to bet the venue has not changed. Huge surprise that the PDGA, under the diminutive guidance of Heinhold, has once again made a clusterfluck of an important decision. Yet, the only assurance is that the Prez will still pocket a bankroll. Again....what a load of shit.

Yes, back to the original date, still at Northwood Black with NH as TD:

"We failed to properly assess the impact the Champions Cup rescheduling had on the newly announced DGPT Europe 2024 schedule of events. New practices are being put in place by the DGPT and the PDGA to ensure this does not happen again," said PDGA Director of Operations, Doug Bjerkaas.

The Champions Cup is still moving to Northwood Park in Morton, Illinois. However, the event is now scheduled for April 25-28, 2024.

These are the original dates the event was scheduled for at the International Disc Golf Center (IDGC) in Appling, Georgia, before learning that the suppression treatment for a Southern pine beetle infestation at the IDGC would render the WR Jackson course unplayable.

"We support this date change and look forward to a great 2024 season," said DGPT CEO, Jeff Spring.

Soliciting input from the pro touring players was critical when making this decision. The PDGA Pro Touring Players Committee (PTPC) and the DGPT Players Council have advocated for and support this spot on the calendar, as it does not conflict with any other Elite Series events and makes travel between events much easier than before.

Andrew Fish, PTPC Chairperson, and Luke Humphries, DGPT Players Council Representative, shared, "Our primary goal is to bring the Champions Cup back to the IDGC in the future. The approach we are taking for the 2024 PDGA Champions Cup is the most effective way to address the current gap. Players are grateful that their concerns have been acknowledged, and they intend to collaborate closely with the PDGA in navigating similar situations in the future."

It's the original date. Heinold was going to be TD either way. Even though we already see the players in Peoria enough this iteration actually makes sense imo.

When they get things right, gotta give the PDGA props. Hopefully this leads to less tone-deaf decisions in the future.

Hopefully we don't have a late winter in the Midwest now.
Why? I for one would LOVE to see the best players in the world play through a blizzard in a foot of snow. With wind chills near zero. You know, like so many of us deal with all winter long. Lets see, altering discs is illegal, so no streamers. Doesn't one of the players have all white discs?

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Yes streamers.

"813.01 Illegal Disc

D. When night or snow play has been announced by the Director, players are allowed to add a material or device to assist in finding the disc."

Gotta agree with this.
