Getting a bit nervous, etc, when putting your skills on public display is common at first. It just takes time to get comfortable with the fact that alot...of people...are probably better than you at this game. It's very intimidating at first to see someone throw so far, putt so well, etc, etc. But like others have said, one of the best ways to get better is to play with players better than yourself. Some times the social benefit out weights the need to get better and player skill's stagnate because they play in their comfort zone with the same group of people.
