[Vibram] Vibram Disc Golf Thread (Part II)

I wish I had a video of the shot I had with my unLace at a tournament this past weekend. On a large down hill hole, 700'+ in distance with a drop of probably 100' in the first 200' of the hole, I was able to throw my unLace further than anyone else in my group. This happened mostly because I used the understability to let the thing really soar. It really is amazing what you can do with an unLace.

I had my longest throw ever this weekend with my seasoned Lace. Shot was probably about 10-15' downhill with a 10-15mph left to right tail. The hole was 600' from pad to basket, and I got the perfect rip on it and watched it pop to flat, then take an updraft from 15-20' off the ground up to 50-60' off the ground where it proceeded to flip over and track right for a long time before colliding with a tree pin high, about 40' up and finally coming to earth about 20' deep. It was one of those shots that showed me why I love this game so much, and was the highlight of my otherwise dismal performance at the tourney this past weekend.

Vibram discs have unreal distance potential. It just takes time to beat them in to get all that glorious glide.

Nailed a legit field ace at sundays mini with my seasoned ibex. I can honestly say i wont get rid
of that disc. About 40% with stocking an all vibram semian bag

Steve, how's the second retooling for the O-Lace coming along?

I played with Steve this morning, I believe he was field testing these this afternoon.

I've previously stated my love of the Ibex and Trak...consider me now a Summit convert. Picked up an unLace today as well, havent gotten the chance to throw it. Maybe tomorrow....

Anyone throw a light weight ascent? How does it's stability hold up to an almost max weight counterpart? I'm wanting to try one out.

I do not have a super light weight one, but my 167g Ascent is maintaining more stability than my first run 172g Ascent.

The Ascent is the most inconsistent disc in the Vibram lineup and Mr. Dodge will get to work on this at some point. But the stability of the Ascent is going to be more dependent on the particular Ascent you pick up and less dependent on the weight.

I lost a nice medium 170 a while back that flew like a seasoned teebird, and recently purchased one in the mid 170s and lower 160s and both fly more like a banshee. Hopefully I can track down a few straighter ascents, for the mean time I'm gonna keep a rotation of traks in the bag.

Not to override previous comments, but generally speaking, the lighter weight discs fly quite similar to their heavier counterparts.

I didn't see them, he was heading off to test after we played.

I did play with something else special, but I'll keep my mouth shut and let Steve make that public ;) :D

Thanks Jason! Testing takes time, and sometimes I need to have some things up my sleevies.

There are 100000 products out there already that glow in the dark and are made from the same stuff... Kids toys alone there are tons. Vibram COULD make glow discs. If vibram is extracting pure rubber from trees I can see adding glow agent being an issue but am 99.9% sure they produce synthetically created rubbery plastic discs not actual rubber discs.

:::paging Mr. Dodge?!:::

Yup. We use synthetic rubber with a touch of EVA (more for firm).

I'm glad to hear people are liking the UnLace so far. Last I heard the OLace was coming out this month but I'm guessing that's not happening now. Any word on when? I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also really glad to see so many more people in my area throwing Vibram this year compared to last year. I know I played a part in that but the Birdie Bash helped a TON. Are we doing Birdie Bashes again?

I got to field test the 420D and believe we have nailed it. One more round of testing and we will begin production trials. It those go well, we will be able to set a firm release date.

420 - Concept disc that did not work, at all. For fun, we looked at it yesterday and had a good laugh.
420B - Insanely overstable, we decided to tone it down a touch.
420C - We toned it down too close to the Lace (these are the Vibram Open O-Laces)
420D - Initial testing yesterday indicates we got it.

As has already been said, this is a first run.

Does anyone know with the new information stamp on the bottom if this is going to remain the difference between first runs and regular production runs? I know my unLace had the picture of the flight pattern on it, but no numbers that I am aware of. Didn't really remember seeing a place for the numbers though.

If you look at our flight guide (http://www.vibramdiscgolf.com/flight-ratings.html), the placement for the fade and turn numbers is shown on there as well as our initial guesses what the unLace and O-Lace will be.

Does anyone know when specifically Vibram is going to run its Softs? I'm jonesing to pick up a few max weight Soft VPs, and if there are any out there for the standard price, I sure can't find them. A few 172s at Marshall St, but I'd prefer to stay at max weight. I'm trying to figure out if I should just wait it out or pull the trigger on the 172s; that'll depend on how long the wait is going to be.

They are shipping to stores now. Production should be complete within two weeks.
