[Other] Disc Golf Vending Machine

Glacier Ridge Metro Park in Plain City, OH would be an excellent location, there are always tons of families and people that don't play all that often in the summer, plus there are park rangers patroling the facility and the area is very nice, very little chance of it being vandalized.

How many discs per day/per week does one of these units need to sell in order to be profitable? Based on the description of the machines, those things must cost a lot of money. I assume it would take hundreds of disc sales to even begin to cover costs.

^ I'm sure they'll just post their whole business plan on the internet. Their cash flow, projected earnings, and cost analysis.

Its not a public company dude.

I never said it was a public company, dude.

In a thread where you have over 16 pages discussing the logistics and feasibility of this proposed business, I think that question is entirely in-line and reasonable. I am not asking for a detailed business plan, just a general figure of how many discs per day/per week one of these things would need to sell in order to be profitable. I did not suspect that such information would be proprietary, secret information.

I think it is a cool idea. These have the potential to do well at the right locations. If one of these had been at the course when I first started playing, I know I would have looked forward to getting discs out of it on a regular basis. Instead, I regularly bought from a nearby gas station (that provided less info about their discs than this machine does!)

Colleges

You know what? We can all be cynics but this seems very well thought out. I can think of many 9 hole+ courses in multi-use parks that would benefit from this. I can buy a new disc on site? Before I play? I can see some people getting into that.

To the creator, have you contacted any colleges that have courses on their campuses? That would seem to be a veritable gold mine.

Hello Dan,

So far, we have only contacted one college that has a course on it but I definitely see more college courses getting a TeeBoxx in the future.

I only throw certain weights, i know alot of people are the same. Cool idea but i dont see how it could be successful long term. There are disc golf shops everywhere and with a click of the mouse you can get the exact weight and disc you want. I guess if you find courses with 90% very casual players or possibly courses where tons of discs are lost (players want to replace those right?). Personally i wouldnt buy anything because im picky and i know alot of people are the same as me.

Most new businesses don't turn a profit for 3 years, I'm sure you could sell a few hundred discs in 3 years if you keep it stocked with decent discs. I would hold out though and wait till they come up with a better design that allows at least 40-50 molds to be sold. Even if it costs twice as much for the "red box" like version it would be well worth it in the long run.

1 for Elon in Charlotte, please. Might as well put one at Bailey and Reedy, too.

Hello,

Are these high traffic courses?

Thanks,

Ross Brandt

Hi Ross.

Yes, in my opinion, Elon is high traffic. But it's hard to know how it compares to the busiest of the busy. There are two separate courses on site. The short course (Eager Beaver) is very busy, especially with a demographic of families and new players.

Also, there is a staffed Rec Center a couple hundred feet from the first tee. There are currently no disc sales on-site. Or anywhere near the park for that matter.

Did you notice how he didn't answer your question.....DUDE?

Hello,

Thank you for your comments. TeeBoxxes will be conveniently placed in parks for kids, families, and people who have never played to help promote the sport of disc golf. If we can get one kid or family to play disc golf that otherwise wouldn't have because of our TeeBoxx, then that's good for our sport and the health and welfare of the community. People with more experience with different weights and/or molds, like yourself, might not need to use the TeeBoxx but for everyone else that doesn't know about those details or have a local shop it will be at the park for their convenience. If there are inconsistencies within the same mold of disc for different manufacturers, then we don't really have much say in their final products.

Thanks again,

Ross Brandt

Hello again,

Wonderful, Elon Park sounds like the perfect place for a TeeBoxx!! Are you a part of the local club or association? Thank you for the contact information! Also, I think that is sweet that they have a Youth League.

Thank you,

I worked in a disc shop for a summer two years ago, and on a busy Saturday most customers had never played or maybe once or twice. They didn't know anything about discs and just needed something to play with. I would never buy from one of these machines, but if I had a course I would get a machine and stick it next to the first tee $$$.

Good luck with it, but I like to select certain weights, plastics, colors, maybe even feel for differences in plastic. "I'll stick with my local dealer," he said.*

* just before they slapped the cuffs on him.

the machines are lease only with profits going to the company u can not buy the machine outright.

Day late and a dollar short, but what I meant by "no lease" was, none of the costs associated with running a brick and mortar opertation....

Reading the responces from the company on here since this post, it's obviously a much more elaborate operation than I was thinking....

Reedy Creek may arguably be the highest traffic course in town. Closest to UNCC, not overly long/challenging. It's tough to get a solo round in there unless the weather is pretty bad.
