[Discmania] discmania FD- jackal ...its coming

This new c-line FD- give me a picture of how the turn and fade breaks in. There isn't much fade to begin with, will that go away completely? Does it gain turn more first, or lose fade first?

gains more turn and the fade acts more to flatten the flight and give it a ton of glide. when beat in well they will hold a turn their whole flight, but that LSS keeps it gliding flat so it always lands soft for most intermediate to advanced arm speeds.

What's the word on the flights for new C-Lines? I just snagged two 167g C Lines...by the stamp, they are definitely newer runs, they say Discmania Originals.

Haven't tried an embossed c line but I'll guess it's pretty true to the 7/6/-1/1 numbers. I've found c line to be a touch more stable off the shelf than s line and am hearing recent runs have been on the OS side. Lighter weight should offset some of that.

FYI, yours is most likely a recent run. However, I found a penned PD with the originals stamp. I assume they had some older stock that got the new stamp.

I have a new C-Line 169g. So far it turns similar to what I expected new, but has more fade than I was expecting. 7|6|-1|2 is how mine throws. Has more turn than an Explorer, with similar fade. Not as much fade as a champ Eagle-X, but similar turn.

I tested a NS2, NS3, new S-line FD/C-line today. From least to most overstable for me was S-line, NS3, NS2/C-line. The S-line already had the noticeable turn right out of the box for me and the C-line just wanted to go straight then left. No turn what so ever in the C-line/NS2. I feel like the new c-line feels a bit different from old C-line. Hard to describe but I like the change but they molded up pretty stable. Mine was a 175 though so yours could have a bit more turn.

I also agree with seedlings that they do have a little more fade on them.

^^Sounds like the new run is workably OS. C line will obviously beat in slowly but should gain some glide and maybe a little more turn after the new gets knocked off.

I've swapped a couple c lines in my bag for a couple years. Supposedly 6th run that start slightly OS. Most reliable disc in my bag and I have a couple backups.

I was underwhelmed with the NS3. I got lotsa FDs and I don't love a domey FD. I even felt them up before I bought them so it's my fault, they really are domey.

Sounds like the newer C's are getting a little closer to a TL kind of flight, I can dig that.

I have had the opposite experience with the newer runs of C-line.

Admittedly my sample size is small but the two C-lines I have are slightly less stable than any of my S-lines. All of my S-lines are recent runs but fly more like a 7/6/-.5/1.5 but my C-lines fly pretty close to the factory numbers.

So sounds like either way, I will like my C FDs. I'm really wanting a driver that flies like a Z Buzzz but 2-3 notches faster.

An Undertaker is that disc. McBeth has referred to it as a longer Buzzz on a few of his vlogs. While I don't have 1/1000th of his skill I would definitely agree with him. Once they beat in a little they hold whatever line you throw them on and are a great all around disc.

I bag an undertaker for my straight FH shots, but it seems quite a bit more stable than the Luster FD, more like the Night strike 2 level of stability but with even less turn.

Appreciate the input on the new run of c-line fds, hope anyone who picks one up will continue to share. I lost a teebird that went dead straight for me, and I wanna replace it with something with a little bit of turn. Currently deciding between c-line FD or a Z Stalker. I've heard both be described as a longer Buzzz. I'm nervous that whichever one I get will be too OS like my new 175 teebird though.

I got a few embossed C-Line FDs that fly close to my seasoned Champ Teebirds I've been throwing for a few years. Pretty much straight, maybe a bit of turn, very mild fade. Closer to a new Champ Leopard3 than a Teebird.

Neither of them is too similar to a new teebird. Stalker feels a bit faster and with less glide, but goes really straight and holds a turn if you start it with turn out of your hand. Maybe like a milder Teebird3 I guess. For FDs, I would aim for one on the domier side in S-Line or C-line. The flatter ones tend to be closer to a seasoned teebird while the domier ones are their own thing - glide forever, get a fair amount of turn, have a soft landing. Also worth noting is that recent S-lines have tended to be a bit flatter and pretty overstable out of the box. I throw a domier nightstrike (its very similar to current domey c-line) for hyzer to straight and flat to turnover, and I throw a flat metal flake c-line with a pretty high PLH for more flat to gentle hyzer. I'm sure that's more info than needed, but if it helps you find a new disc that works for you so be it! Fairway shots I'm getting 350 with FD and teebird combo. I feel like people with more power will probably have a tough time with the domey FD unless theyre comfortable with hyzerflips. It can be a touchy disc if you're used to throwing the stability of a teebird - It's not nearly as torque resistant.

It's been three weeks with the c-line FD. I've used it as often as possible on the course. Near ace off the basket. Lots of tree hits. I've thrown it often in an open field and the ground is hard dry clay. There is still minimal turn, but the fade is softening. It had a pretty strong fade, I'd say 2, when I first bought it. It's really comfortable to throw, compared to an Eagle, Explorer and Teebird, I like to throw the FD most, unless I need more fade, then the Eagle. After 3 weeks, a very hard throw for me, will barely flip to flat, go 300' and now a much more gradual fade for another 50' or so.

the general rule is that for champion plastic all FD's are very similar in flight characteristics:

a glidey very easy to control and sneaky distance fairway driver.

but C-line (champ) runs are easily differentiated like so:

1st, 3rd, 4th run champ are very similar slightly domey and gummier less clear plastic. penned with FD

2nd run is the most different. very stiff flatter champion plastic with bubbles in the rim. very overstable (at first) overstable glidey teebird like flight. very expensive! even in lighter 160 weights still retained same flight characteristics. penned FD

5th run was the jolly launcher champ plastic very see through and more domey and a more glidey. beloved run Penned FD

6th and 7th run are jolly launcher champ plastic embossed with C-Line FD but a little flatter and faster.

there were some newer 6th and 7th runs in lower weight FD (150-160g) that had bubbles in the rim and tricked people into thinking they had expensive 2nd runs but you can tell they aren't 2nd run because less stiff and lower in weight or embossed.

even more expensive is color glow FD (nate perkins signature discs) which had a lot of glide and less stable (similar to 5th run flight).

I have no real idea of different runs of star FD. I do know they are great fairway discs too and people love them because of their glide/easy distance/straight flight.

Bump - warning, FD Porn attached!

First row - last (I think) Innova run C-line. OS for an FD, always have one itb.

Second row - two second run C-line, three luster.

Third row - two NS3, one NS1

Second runs and NS1 we're used bin finds, ya think I should try to get antiques roadshow to appraise them for insurance purposes? They ain't for sale. Not pictured - all my S-lines and a bunch more....

Is this where we talk about the impending DM run FD or do we need a new thread?

Since we're sharing our FD collection here are my snakes :) I always have the Orange NS2 or Green with Red stamp NS2 in my bag depending on the time off year and which stands out more.

Not pictured are the 2 C-Line FD's I use for winter golf or the 3 Luster FD's that make their way into the bags on various occasions.
I'd been worried about throwing the luster's because one is a purple color that seems to have a particular penchant for hiding in plain site in the woods and the other is a bright pink team DM stamped one that I know I'd never be able to replace. By some miracle I was lucky enough to pull an orange x-out luster FD from the black mystery box this year so that's going straight into the bag as soon as the snow is gone!

^^ A little jelly of your NS1s, probably my favorite FD but I only have one so I don't throw it. Missed the boat on 2 and don't love the dome on 3.
