"Ah Ha!" Moments

I've had Take On Me in my head for the past three days thanks to this thread. But I discovered several really good covers on Youtube.

Your hips should swing freely. Leave your back leg loose.

I was throwing headwind approaches with putters and a fh throw. I realized when I was powering down I was using lots of arm and little wrist/finger snap and this made the disc flip very easily. I threw the same shot with a lot of spin and the disc held the line.

Tried the same with some headwind putts. On low spin putts the disc was more likely to turn over, but with a lot of spin put on it the line held more consistently.

Its another windy day out so I'm going to play around more with high spin approaches and drives.

Edit: Just threw my Vector on a FH drive on a hole it looked like it would work for but I always turned it over hard (12 long arboretum). Threw it with a standstill, high spin throw and nearly aced it on a perfect hyzer in a headwind :)

When I realized it was the disc and not me.

:p

Seriously though, today was the first time I realized that my champ monarch is not understable at all. Don't know whether it is the plastic or just my disc, but it is actually the most OS disc I own. That isn't saying mich, the next is a buzzz, but it reminds me of my brother's orc, maybe a little less stable. When I was flipping my leo and my kat at the field, and even my buzzz in the headwinds, the monarch stayed hyzer (I was trying to flip it). I started throwing it anny, and bam, it was sitting next to the Kat that I had just hyzer flipped. It was more consitent than the Katana too, maybe because the lines has less components. This worked FH and BH. Now, if it wasn't factory died to be invisible, it could become my go to for medium tight drives.

I throw majority FH, but I don't like to try to hyzer FH drives or even approaches into a headwind. Is there some reason u were trying this? Maybe just working on FH shots? For the same shots, I would probably go with a little backhand flip shot or anny. As a general rule, I always try to work with the wind, rather than trying to fight it.

When I relaxed my grip until far into my forward acceleration...I had previously been gripping hard before even beginning my run up. Advice from here helped me add about 30ft to my drives

I have no problem using a FH shot into a headwind, I do it just about every round. I'd rather just throw a FH hyzer with a disc stable enough to fight the wind than try to do a BH turnover in the same headwind and hope I turn it just the right amount.

Fair enough, I've just found that it's much easier to throw turnovers/annys into a headwind and hyzers with a tailwind. But I gotta agree with your analysis that more spin equals more stable shots. I even started another thread about how actively adjusting the spin of a certain shot can be very useful. Glad to know I'm not the only one that does this!

I played two rounds this weekend. I had another moment. It was reaffirmation that I need lots of work. Is there a pill for this game? I am snapless.

In the past few days, I've discovered that the left foot wants to come off the ground as I plant on the right and go into the hip turn. This seems to really facilitate the hips turning. This is only on full power drives though.

When my wife bought me a disc without asking me and got it perfect! Thanks for the new star wraith my love:) can't wait to throw it tomorrow!

My ah-ha moment was when I realized a punch out for 4 was better than busting around trees and obs for 6s and 7s. I also realized that sliding up on the ground in crazy windy days is much better than trying to go for a long putt and have wind grab your disc. Saved so many strokes.

My moment was that video on Snap where he's comparing throwing a disc to throwing an axe, it's not the whole disc you are throwing... the weight is opposite from where your hand is.

It changed my view on when and how much to load my wrist before throwing, helped me understand forehand better and lob putting.

My moment was when I finally softened up my grip and then at the moment of release I gripped and let it rip out of my finger tips. First time I heard my fingers make the pop sound and got an extra 40-50ft of distance with less strong arming it.

The first day I started playing with people that knew how to play:D:thmbup:! I was an Effing horrible disc golf player for the first 6 years, and I mean for 6 years I was playing bogie golf:mad::thmbdown:.

Playing golf with a 990 rated player throwing 550+ feet, he said to clench your abs during the hit, like doing a situp.

Just had one with the DX Roc. I've been trying to utilize mids more often (by which I mean start using them), and have been playing rounds with a JK Aviar, a DX Roc, and an EliteX comet. Until today it's been disastrous, but today I full on power drove my roc into a tree 5 ft away and tacoed the hell out of it. After bending it back and trying again more slowly, I realized - AH HA! If you throw it slower, it works better! AND the tacoing caused the disc to cross some sort of beating in threshold and now the thing flies dead nuts straight! Love it!
