[Discmania] Power Driver Freak PEEDEE Thread

Sounds like a good advice. And yeah I would get 2 of the same mold, one more overstable for headwinds and the other more like straight and decent fade at the end. The P-lines I've tried felt very much like S-line in terms of how the plastic feels. Does the P-line get softer when it beats in a little?
I guess Teebirds wouldn't be bad either. Thanks for your suggestions.
I'm fairly new to the sports, started in autumn 2011 and I couldn't even throw BH before this summer, and it's been developing a lot after that, so I was wondering if I should get a disc that's faster than for example a Teebird, as I'm expecting to keep on learning pretty fast next year as well.
I don't know if this is the right thread for this kind of stuff but people really seem to find PD a great disc so I asked here if it would be what I'm looking for instead of starting a new thread.
If you have experience how do the Starfire and PD compare I would be glad to hear your opinions.

In my experience, no. There are "softer" runs of P-Line available, but the firmer ones remain pretty firm. I put in a lot of time beating in my S-Lines so I didn't throw the P-Line much (enough to beat it up, but it didn't stay in the bag long enough to get beat to death).

Thread drift is what this forum is about, but you're right. There are many threads on here extolling the virtues of the TeeBird. That being said, the TeeBird, while slow, is anything but a beginner disc. Part of getting better is learning that disc speed doesn't always mean better. Its distance potential while remaining super controllable is very great (much like the PD), and it's useful at every stage of its lifespan. I don't throw it much anymore because my game has changed, but it was my main driver for years. If it weren't for my game changing (and if I hadn't found the PD), it probably would still be.

I haven't thrown the Starfire much, sorry.

The Starfire is a bit faster than the PD and starts out more stable than the S-PD. For me the biggest difference is that the Starfire has more of a L shaped flight where it hooks and fades a lot more at the end it's flight whereas the S-PD will fade forward especially as you beat it in.

Can someone point me in the direction of a non-plus C-Line PD for purchase? I checked DGV, but couldn't find any PD listings that were explicit about the rim. Thanks!

I found one at a drug store recently. Not sure where you are located but that was in Ottumwa IA.

Put a 169g SPD back in the bag as an overstable driver, my discs somehow seem happier.

did the same last weekend, I took out my S-PD for about 6 months. I feel better with it in the bag. It is such an great all around driver.

I just got a 168 pink spd. I think it might be the test configuration because from the shoulder down to the rim it is very steep and doesn't have the "anhyzer" top feel to it. Maybe it is one of the ones with the "olf" top or whatever the early ones were. I don't know but it is as beefy as my 175 cfr cpd from dgv.

I don't know if that has been covered in here or not. But I know a lot of people throw Firebirds as their OS fairway/driver. Has anyone else gotten rid of their firebird because of a fresh heavy PD? I just can't justify keeping both a 175 C-PD and 175 FX in the bag....
Just my thoughts, would be curious if anyone else found either a faster OS disc like a Max useful afterwards, or even a slower one like a Trident.

My FB (new flattish Glow Champ) is MUCH slower than any PD I've had. I like having a disc I can punch anny and still come back, and no PD does this for me, especially into a headwind. Even the overstable flat FR CFR PDs would hold a line for 70% of the flight and not have enough fade to recover from much of an anny release when thrown hard. The Trident is about the same speed as the FB imo(or maybe slightly slower), and the XXX is slightly faster.

I feel this, My newish heavy PD on a hyzer can fly just like a firebird. And on a mean hyzer, yeah, PD can do the job.

like ds said, not the same. i carry both. my cfr pd is like my longer seasoned fb. even though both are overstable, the fb is more overstable and skips better

Interesting. I definitely agree with your thoughts. I guess I'm just looking for a reason to drop the FB's. Mine are CE FX's, and I don't want to replace them. I'm going down to a production run bag and buying about 5-6 of each and I don't want any more of either.

If any of y'all have throw CE and glow flats, are they similar?

Also, ds, how is a trident similar to a fb? I believe you but it's listed as a 5 speed, I guess I'm just surprised...

Drop the CEs...There is your problem. CE FBs really are speed 9s, where I think the modern Champ FBs are no faster than a TB. The more modern ones are much closer to midrange than the CEs. No FBs since the CEs have been anything like the CEs. Maybe a Neutron plastic FB...

Regarding your last question...Whoever listed the Trident as speed 5 is either not being honest or shouldn't be rating discs. It does have a blunt nose, but a 1.9mm rim that's a 5 speed? BTW, Dan Beto threw the Trident like 550' or something ridiculous, so at a certain speed (Dan's armspeed or one of us into a stiff wind) the Trident gets action like a D driver, which is quite different from a FB.

Agree totally different discs. My FB's are much more stable than my PD's. That said PD's are much longer, especially more than my new flat champ 12xFB. That thing goes about 100 feet and starts looking left, hard and fast. it's great into any headwind, that baby's always coming home.
