[Discraft] The Challenger has arrived!!

The height and overall dimensions are no where near the size of a grip or simian bag. And the name Challenger is because we guarantee pound for pound this bag will outlast and outperform any other bag. We are trying to bring new options to the disc golf world which is only good for the consumer. Don't knock the bag til youve tried it.

pictures are worth a thousand words....more pics

I've always wondered why someone doesn't come along and make a backpack style bag for like $80. Does it really cost that much to make a disc golf backpack or are companies just obsessed with that markup? What you lose in markup, you'd make up for in sales. I paid like $40 for my fade tourney and then like $25 for the straps, seems to me like you could make a backpack for a lot less than $200. Maybe the design and production costs are more than I think.

they'll charge what people will pay for. Grip can charge $200 because many people think it is the best bag on the market and will gladly pay that much. At $200, very few people will buy this bag and it will be Darwinated from the competition.

You would think that a company trying to get into the DG bag business would choose a name that isn't already taken by a popular putter. It's a very stupid decision IMO

Production costs are $100 or more for a backpack bag with high grade material and machine cut patterns so please believe me, I'm not in it for the money!! That's why I have a day time job. Most people have no idea how much it takes to make and sew a quality bag.

I am not a legal expert. I know that any vendors/companies cannot print if there is an existing trademark, copyright, etc since Challenger putter is made by Discraft.

I think I smell lawsuit coming in the court? LOL

I was thinkinking about the same thing, but I don't know squat about trademark law. Certainly, there are dissimilar products sold under the same name, but I wonder how similar a product usage has to be before it becomes an issue; Shark Vaccum, and Steamer/Sanitizer vs the Innova Shark...

Dodge had a Challenger before Discraft did, but those items don't compete in the market place, so I see how they can share the same trademarked name without any legal conflict.

Similarly, a bag and a disc don't compete directly with each other. However, I can see where Discraft could claim the use of the name Challenger could be construed as their endorsement, or that they simply don't want their trademarked name used for other products intended for the same activity for which their's is.

So the question is: "Where does The Law draw that line?"

Btw we are at 30 ore orders right now.

that's fine, and I hope it works out for you. I am just trying to give you real feedback and not some fluffed up BS. Personally, I don't know anyone that would want this over a Grip bag at the exact same price point but what do I know.

You guys have too much time on your hands to bash people, of you don't want to call it the challenger you can call it the competitor !!! Either way I dont care

I'm not bashing. I'm simply raising a question - one that seems pretty valid.
I can see how Proctor and Gamble might have a valid lawsuit if Colgate-Palmolive came out with Tide dryer sheets.

Like I said, "I don't know squat about trademark law." If you checked with an attorney, then you're probably OK. If you haven't, then you might want to. The last thing I want to see is a small business get hurt for something that was easily avoidable.

And just my opinion, but I don't think that type of 'tude is gonna help sales any.

Read my mind, BNM. :)

And as much as I love seeing small companies get into the sport, there have been some less-than-reputable individuals and companies jumping on the bandwagon...although it's worth noting that there is no shortage of DG fanboys who will gladly hand over big bucks for something that is both new AND looks cool, especially if it means being the first on their course to own it.

The Challenger is a bag and not a flying disc, talked to my lawyer and we are in the clear, totally different product. Thanks for the concern

Don't let the haters get you down Chris! Haters always gonna hate. BTW I apologize for calling the bag the Challenger, I see on your website you have it called the Chally. Either way keep up the good work and the bag looks great and I can't wait to get mine in. :)

Even if you are clear legally, it's still a dumb idea. If you have people talking about your challenger, everybody who doesn't know about it will think it's the putter and move on. If it's something they've never heard of before, they're going to ask what it is

No prob Billy about the name. I've even made the mistake of typing "Challenger" however, the official name is Chally, basically its a challenger to any bag on the market in overall bang for your buck.

Enjoy the bag bro!! See you out on the course soon.

And here are some updated pics for everyone.

Looks like it doesn't even hold one putter well in the putter pocket. Can you show pics of it holding two like you say it does?
