How long did it take you to throw far?

Wow, this would be best guesses as far as the early distances go since it has been so long... I was playing casually once in a while for many years before I actually cared enough to figure out what I was doing and try to improve.

100 ft - I could hit 100 when I first started
200 ft - Probably 2 months
250ft - Less than a year
300ft - About a year
350ft - ~2 years
400ft - ~4 years (not long after I started breaking 350)
450ft - ~11 years (maxed out about 500-520)

One thing to note is that once I broke the 400 plateau I stopped caring about distance and started focusing on other aspects of my game, and as a result my distance dropped off a bit again. I'm back to the 400-430ft distance range now but I honestly don't care :) It'll come back.

I can't throw any farther now than I did my first month playing. The key is repetition. When I first started I played twice a week.

Now? I've only played 6 rounds this year. (And I live where you can play all year round) I am much more accurate now, and don't even care too much about distance anymore.

About a year ago I was only able to get drivers out about 300-350' but have since really focused on my technique and put in a lot of field work. One of the largest thing for me to increase my distance was watching Feldberg's distance driving clinics and seeing how he recommended to improve form flaws. I am extremely proud of the results since while playing practice rounds for a tournament this weekend, I parked a 410' flat hole with a Trak then proceeded to park a 450' hole (also no elevation change) with a Lace on a low hyzer line.

Anyone that asks me how to get to throw further, I recommend watching Feldberg's clinics and go to a field and work on improving their timing and overall form.

I've always gauged BH improvement by consistent putter drives. Sometimes gains were in efficiency but not distance but typically every throwing session or few there was some improvement.

I got to 320' with fast drivers within a couple of months. After another couple of months I got to 350' or so. I stuck there for about a year and a half until I disced down and focused on slower drivers, mids and putters. After a couple months of that I was hitting 350' with fairway drivers and 400' on distance lines with faster (speed 10-11) drivers. Then a couple years later once the hammer drills came out I di them and could hit 400' with DX Teebirds after about a half round.

Im no where near that, I guess I need to play more. Maybe a silly question but how are you measuring?

So I've been playing a little over 6 months at this point and have been wondering exactly the same thing. For me the progression has gone like this:

100ft: First round
200ft: Third round, after learning the x step and devoting everything to backhand
250ft: 3 months
300ft: 6 months. I can hit ~330 with a light star Valkyrie if there is no headwind (actually took it 350 uphill over the weekend but it was 100ft off target) , I go pretty consistently out to 300 with my champion Eagle L and my MOLS, both around 170g...

My goal is to be able to hit 400ft by the end of the calendar year. I've been working Bradley Walker's closed shoulder snap drill and it has help more than the hammer drills or hit backwards drills have for both my distance but especially my accuracy. It's been the only explanation of "snap" that I feel like I've been able to process.

100-150 ft - I could hit 100-150 when I first started throwing (noob hyzers)
200 ft or so - Probably 2-3 months in
250ft - Less than a year
300-320ft - About a year
350ft with the occasional 400' grip lock throw - 1-2 years
330'-340' - 2.8 years in. Distance has fallen a bit since I've been working on my form and discing down hasn't been helping either. I'm at a very frustrating point in my overall game right now. Very tempted to give it all up.

I have an iphone and I chalked up the $1.99 on the UDisc app. It is as accurate as 16ft +/-. It uses GPS to find your distances. There is also scorecards on there and the developer seems to be pretty good so far about improving his product.

I was out distancing the person who introduced me to the game within a month, and 350' took me another month or two to hit consistently. Was using Firebirds as distance drivers too haha.

Now doing it with control? That took time :)

Thought everyone here threw over 500 ft. Distance is a false prophet. Few course force distance over 300 ft to score well. Accuracy, shaping and course management will improve your game quicker. Having fun will make your whole game better.

I'm wondering what the timeline and gaining distance is for your average players. Use your best/longest drives.

100 ft - 1 week
200 ft - 2 week
250 - 1 month
300 - 6-7 months

Presently at 8 months - 350 max once in a blue moon. I average about 300-320 with my D4 or Z Avenger.

I work on my snap drills and field practice and am wondering is distance something that grows at a steady pace or is it something that you got right away. Or maybe it was something that clicked one day and boom you jumped from 300 to 400. For me it seems to be a steady increase with a lot of 2 steps forward, 1 step back.
Gah gotta use memory... I grew up playing a lot of Ultimate... so I'd say:

100 ft - immediate.
200 ft - 1 week
250 ft - 2 weeks
300 ft - 1 month
400 ft - 1 year
450 ft - 1.5 year
500 ft - 3 years
550 ft - 5 years

All really approximate. Still looking to cross 600. Hoping for this year - I've been able to touch 550 for like 3 years now. I'd like to believe all my winter workouts, specifically leg work, will make a difference and get me past my current best in the 570s.

I HAVE thrown over 620 once in 2009. But it doesn't count. Since it was with a 150g Destroyer with a 25mph gust that carried the hell out of it. Haha. Given a big enough tornado anyone can throw a literal mile. ;)

100 ft was just...day one
200 ft was about a week or so into it...like 3-5 rounds and some reading
300 ft was a couple months in
400 ft is...i dunno that i'd say i can ever truely throw 400...down hill with the wind... yes :)

GPS is probably the best, but I say do field work on a football field if you can. Soccer fields are fine, but can vary some in length, especially in the US.

A football field is always going to be 360 feet from goal post to goal post.

Obviously, once you're out to 400+, the football field can be problematic.

still can't

but...

70 rounds in 2 yrs got me to 330'

Me this...only it's probably closer to 300 rounds....

I had a jump over the last year, where I'm around 350 controlled max D. So, 3 yrs to 350. Starting from "what's a frisbee," basically, and starting old, so my body requires patience....
