it's really no ones business but his, the more you worry about him the more your game will suffer. who cares who is rated what, I'm going to win. there are always haters, I don't know him personally, but he is young and has never accepted cash, so who cares.
The people who have to play against a sandbagger? He can't be that young, he's been playing Advanced since 2005, at least on the PDGA site.
It's one thing to play against a guy in INT in some C-tier that everyone knows should be playing ADV. That's just people grumbling and giving him crap.
He has 10 first place finishes in 13 tournaments over the past 2 years. Plus he's practically a local compared to the majority of the field.
If he doesn't want to step up, that's his call. But not only is it unfair to true AMs who pay a lot of money and travel great distances for this event, it's also detrimental to him as a player to keep clinging to divisions below your skill level.
I'm not playing in Worlds, so I don't have any competitive stake if these guys play or not (there's also a 998 player in there). But I know a lot of Open players who work their asses off for their 980 or 990 rating and wouldn't dream for one second of dropping down to AM.
But maybe my experiences are skewed. I come from a disc golf area that's not nearly as big as some of the hubs around the country. Having 970+ players in Adv may be the norm. But it still seems silly to be classified as AM just because you've decided to putz around in lower divisions and not play Open.
