2013 Minnesota Majestic

The biggest complaint, and this is not necessarily aimed at the Majestic, is that apparently some people do not feel like they are getting entertainment value for their fee, whether it being a player's pack or an incredible experience. One of the either can mask a deficiency in the other, but if a tournament is neither fun or offers something materially appealing, well, then we are going to see the argument we are having above.

So, I can guarantee this: if you are the person who wants a larger player's pack, I bet you are willing to forget that they had a smaller pack if you had the time of your life. Conversely, if they offered a small pack and if the tournmanet was a complete bust, I guarantee you will feel cheated. Lastly, if they had a giant or thoughtful player's pack, the only thing you will remember from that tournament is the package because material possessions are more tangible than memories. Seeing that disc in your bag or on your wall might influence you to even play again next year,

IMO
When signing up for a Disc Golf tournament I would hope playing Disc Golf is more important then getting a bunch of stuff. If someone wants stuff, sign up for a stuff tournament. Getting lots of neato prizes should not make up for a poorly organized tournament, on bad courses, while playing with a bunch of bafoons.

I tend to agree that when I show up to an event whether it be a tournament (I have only played one) or league, it's about playing and proving myself against others. But some people may put more weight on player packs. That is their opinion. I don't know why people are attacking him so much for voicing his opinion on how they may improve his experience at the Majestic. His opinion may not be the majority, but he is free to voice it and maybe others agree.

Besides, his opinion is perfectly valid. He stated he would be more inclined to participate again if there was a larger player pack with a lower payout %. I am sure there are a lot of players who agree with him. I am willing to bet a lot of players who are out there playing for fun and love of the game, but know they may not be good enough to cash, would definitely appreciate a bigger players pack. Doesn't mean their greedy.

I don't really have a dog in the fight. I've only played one tournament and that was the BRP Cash Open a week or so ago. I had a blast. I've never experienced a players pack. I don't really care one way or the other. But why does everybody seem to care so much about his opinion? As if what he said personally insults you?

I agree. Seems to be a growing problem on the forum. I try not to voice my opinions on here. You can disagree with someone but most of the time people just lash out and get offended. Maybe their mothers did not love them enough. :D

assuming they played the full 24 at kaposia?

27 holes.

Disc golfers' sense of entitlement never fails to amaze me. Gimme, gimme, gimme.

Yeah, the player pack looked really nice. I would expect a shirt and a mini to remember it by. A disc included is an added bonus and would make me super happy.

As for my own post, I was a spotter at the tournament Saturday and Sunday at Kaposia. I had a great time watching everyone throw. We got a shirt and $5 towards disc for every hour I worked.. However I busted my @** off. Carrying a bunch of stuff and doing more work then what was expected. So I felt I didn't get compensated quite enough. Anywho, it was fun even though there was only two major pros there.. Cale was fun to watch and the only one I knew instantly. The cameras and posse following him were hints. It was cool seeing him even though I couldn't do my job spotting when he went out because everyone swarmed the field in front of me..

I'm not trying to lash out and I'm not insulted, it just doesn't make sense. I just think it needs a little different perspective on where all this "Stuff" comes from. He stated he thought the BGO was better because he got more stuff from the event. Both tournaments probably took thousands of volunteer hours to produce and probably received thousands of dollars in donations. But, he was not able to benefit enough from the volunteers and donations at the Majestic? Huh?

Until there is a big money investor that sees disc golf as a money maker, the sport will be built on the backs of volunteers and donations.

I'm not disagreeing with you, and not necessarily saying that you were attacking him. I just quoted you because it was on this page and relevant to what I was going to discuss. But I thought he was making a case where he would prefer more in the players pack vs. a greater chance of cashing out via performance.

So not so much complaining about the amount of stuff he got in relation to the amount raised / donated for the majestic. More so wishing those funds were allocated a little more towards player packages than vs. payouts. Take paying out to the 26th position (as he discussed) as an example- Maybe he wishes they would pay out only to the top 10 or so, take the leftover funds you would be paying 11-26 in each division and have everybody get slightly more in the packages.

I don't think it's necessarily right or wrong. I understand the argument from both sides. I was just pointing out that what he is discussing is not necessarily greed. It's just a different allocation of Majestic funds.

I am sure the same people accusing him of being greedy would say the guy in 26th is greedy if he complained about wanted more money allocated to payouts vs. player packages.

Thank you for understanding what I was saying.

23 I believe. It was the one in the woods throwing out. Like a 500' hole or something it said.

Crud. I played that Friday and it turned out to be the best drive I have ever had on that hole. I absolutely crushed my Lucid Trespass through the guardian row of trees. I had an easy up (which I botched) for would have been for a tap in 3.

We did not remember having a spotter, unlike every other tournament I have ever played at Kaposia.

, unless it's an NT, the Majestic traditionally has been (and should be IMO)

well, i've attended the last two majestics. I can see why it is not a NT. Mostly just little things but when you pile them on top of each other it starts to matter. And the fact that no other vendor from last years fly mart showed again this year gives me some other clues as to internal issues.
Love the courses and hopefully my mid-range game doesn't vanish again right in time for the weekend.
At least this weekend had a first for me...never lost a disc on a hole with a spotter before.........sigh.......

NT formats have evolved to playing fewer different courses, fewer total holes and 18 holes per day on courses with SSAs over 60. The current Majestic format includes none of those items. But, it's pretty kickass for amateurs in terms of what they seem to like which might be the opposite of the NT format elements: lots of different holes per day and over the weekend, on more conventional tournament SSA courses which we have in spades in the Twin Cities. Thus, our bid for Am Worlds next year.

you are definitely right on that. tho I am not sure what you mean by "conventional tournament SSA courses".

side question...do you know what courses are going to be used for worlds? I assume BRP, Hyland, Kaposia, Bryant Lake, and Valley.

Conventional tournament courses are in the range of par 3 SSA such as 50-55 SSA for 18 holes. That's the equivalent SSA for BRP (83), Kaposia (79) and Hyland (75) if adjusted to 18-hole equivalents 55, 53, 50, respectively.

Am Worlds courses tentatively: Valley, Kaposia, CP Adams, Oakwood, Hyland, Lakewood, Kenwood Trails and possibly Bethel U if they get the new holes done in time. BRP will have a variety of ancillary events so more people have the chance check it out in some form of competition during the week.

They hardly had any spotters. I enjoyed it though, I know the golfers appreciate it very much. Too expensive for me to want to play so I will probably end up spotting again next year!

so no Three Rivers courses...poo

Hyland is 3Rivers but (un)fortunately Bryant and Elm Creek apparently will not be used.

Elm should definitely not be used. It might be my home course but the only real challenge between top end amateurs is going to be in putting. A few will get their birdies here and there because they can drive the 400 feet per hole accurately, but it will come down to almost every upshot being put within a few feet of the basket. Outside a few getting snared in Hole 5 or 12, there is no real scoring separation here.

Bryant is a fantastic looking course, but again it does not offer much in the way of scoring separation. It comes down to who gets the most birdies, not who manages their par saves the best.

The one I most disappointed in is CP Adams. I do not like this course at all. Maybe it will look better once all the construction is done there.

Here's to hoping this will provide some funding to give Oakwood some love. It was looking pretty well run-over the last time I played.

Was there last week. People keep trying to add nice things, and the idiot chuckers that go there keep screwing it up. THey added nice signs to the holes showing wherrethe next tee is, half of them were broken off. Tons of garbage on the ground. Even the holes where there was a garbage the city didn't empty it soon enough and it overflowed.

Love the course, but it will need some serious effort to host a worlds quality event because of how worn down the city let it get.
