[Question] One-brand bags?

I went the OCD route with Discraft, DGA, Latitude, MVP, and Innova, all at the same time. There are certain discs I like and dislike from each manufacturer, but the putters and mids from DGA kept me loading the bag with DGA, especially when playing league. Since I've thrown DGA the most it's what I'm most confident with now, and I have the most variety of plastics and weights. At this point I'm forcing myself to stick with DGA as a way to keep me from buying more plastic, even though I have 14 more DGA discs in the mail. :D

For me DGA lacks a super glidey high speed driver like Bolt/Katana/NukeSS, and a true work horse fairway, although the Tsunami is breaking in to that. The putters and mids suit me.

Latitude I love for the drivers but I don't prefer the putters and mids.

I would be fine with all Innova or Discraft, maybe I just want to be different?

MVP is fine except for high speed drivers and I don't prefer circle putting with the Anode or Ion.

If I could, I'd ditch all my Innova,
all my Discraft except the mids,
all the Latitude except the drivers,
but keep the MVP and see how the line evolves.

I can't justify any of my reasoning. I'm so loaded up on DGA I really can't switch now. I hang on to my collection because it's a lot of effort to sell and someday I hope to shake this OCD problem and start working in the best from each manufacturer.

I am beginning to see a desire not for a one brand bag, but a one brand tier, as in one brand and plastic for putters, mids, fairways, and drivers.

Currently, it is mvp soft proton for putters, discraft z line for mids, and innovation for fairways

Gateway, Innova, Discraft, Lat, Westside, MVP in my bag right now. No allegience to any brand...just give me what works.

I have NO brand loyalty. My buddy and I were talking about this the other day because of the Elitist attitude among the Trilogy crowd. I could go all Innova or all Trilogy if they were buying my discs but until then I will pick and choose the discs that best help me make birdies.

I use an a Lat/WS/DD bag for fun rounds. There are two reasons I decided to do that this year.

1. I like the plastics and enjoy throwing them, but I don't have enough trust in the lineup to put many of those molds in my bag. So a seperate branded bag gives me an outlet to throw those.

2. I've been playing long enough that I've collected tons of plastic. My bag has not had any holes for a very long time. Trying to set up a one brand bag gave me a chance to go back to the early days of trying to find the right mold to fill the holes in my lineup. So it was an exercise in bag building as well that resulted in a fun bag for casual rounds.

I think for me, I occasionally get the itch to try a single-brand bag for a couple reasons. First of course, there's just the curiosity in trying new molds and sometimes making up a single-brand bag forces you to try replacements for discs you wouldn't dream of replacing in your main bag otherwise.

I think the main thing for me though, which no one has mentioned yet, is the idea of finding a new perspective. Each disc company designs its lineup of discs in a certain way to cover each part of the fairway or each type of disc/shot in a slightly different way. So the shot you might use a speed 7 fairway for in one manufacturer, you might be forced to use a speed 9 fairway for in another. It forces you to think about what you throw for different types of shots in a different way, which I think is an interesting exercise and often one that ends up changing how I do things in my main bag for the better.

All that being said, I think the biggest advantage of being an amateur/unsponsored player is that you can bag anything you like from any manufacturer. The world is your oyster and you get to pick the best each company has to offer. I don't see a point in artificially limiting my main bag in this way other than as a fun exercise. Why wouldn't I bag a Buzzz and a Roc3 and a PA4? Those are all great discs that work well for me.

It's an OCD thing for me, but it does make the game simpler. Sticking to one brand can also be cheaper. I love having Comets & my Gateway putters though:)

I've only ever used Innova. Not that I hate or won't use other brands for so many years I figured innova was the only legit DG disc there was cause that was almost all my shop carried back in 05'. I thought everything else was just knock off till I started getting back into DG recently haha

If I was going to be 100% honest and ignore my inner crazy I would throw a mixed bag. But I can't seem to do that so a 1 company bag it is haha.

I started with Innova, because that is what i could find. Then, as I got a little more serious about the sport started trying other companies. I decided real quick I am not a big fan of Discraft, nor am I a fan of large diameter mid-ranges. Those two things quickly put me back to Innova. For me it was easier to fill out the needed spots in my bag with Innova. I have thrown MVP, Lat64, Discraft, Innova. I like that i can find Innova cheaper and easier than any of the others except for Discraft.

Now for putting putters I am not only brand specific, but mold specific. I throw the Gateway SSS Wizard 173-175 gm and that is the only thing i putt with. If i have to I will call the factory to get what i want. Driving putter is a super stiff Warlock, understable approach putter is a sss Magic 173. I also have a softer eraser Wizard for my stable to OS approach needs.

I plan on trying some more Lat64, as i have found a place where i can get the rrecyled line x-outs extremely cheap. May try MVP again in the servo and resistor. To be honest though, my bag is pretty well set. I just need a couple of molds in premi plastic and I am good.

I went this route this summer. It forced me to be very thoughtful in building my bag. What I found was calm. I wasn't worried about whatever was coming out next.

I tried a mixed bag for a couple weeks at the end of the year, but ultimately building a bag from a single company is just more simple. It strengthens my mental game and that alone shaves strokes.

I carry mostly Prodigy, but Im not trying to be ALL and ONLY....I just got a Crank today. its sweet.

I DO prefer Prodigy plastic tho....so tight n grippy...trusty. Better for winter...especially the 300 SE putters. But hey, do what you want. I dont care, let just get out and DISC!!

Convenience.

After playing as long as I have [read: mold trial and error] there is no reason whatsoever. Unless you are sponsored you are justifying something for whatever random reason it may be - it doesn't mean you'll result in a better bag. It's also amazing how you can replace a mold you absolutely cherish once you give its opponent an unbiased shot at taking over a slot. Also, that way you can compare a Boss to a Katana using the same number system because "Westside numbers don't line up with Discrafts!"

Could I shoot (give or take a couple strokes) as well as I do now with a:

Innova: BB Aviar, P&A Aviar, Cobra, Spider, Gator, Valk, Starfire or Wraith, Firebird, Boss? Sure.

Lat64: Sinus, Spike, Fuse, Pain, Vision, Trident, Bolt, Stiletto? Mhmm.

Discraft: Magnet, Challenger, Glide, Buzzz, Drone, Surge, Force? You get the picture.

What are the Nova and Atlas recreations of? I've never seen overmolded discs with compass points and non gyroscopic effects. If you're speaking of MVP i'd say the Vector is pretty close to a Roc and the Axis is pretty close to a Buzz.

I was speaking about discs like The Rival for example , which is a Teebird clone minus the glide.

which roc? and what buzzz? thank god no company made OM disc with "compass points" as part of their piss poor marketing and crap molding job yet call it something special. (even rip discs wasn't this stupid)

If you don't think the nova or atlas were made to compete with MVP then you smoking some good stuff.

Biggest fan boys on earth are innova guys. Get with 2014 we are almost there. CE is nearly ancient by now in regards to polymer and injection molding technology.

I throw the brand with what I think is the best plastic. Most companies have discs that closely relate to other companies discs so for me its just about plastic. Im a fan of good base line plastic so I choose innova because there is no better company for base line plastics. DX and KC are the top of the food chain.

Started with innova because those were the only discs you could buy locally. As I started ordering online I found Latitude 64. Fell in love with goldline plastic. I throw some opto, and I throw some WS and DD. Have some other brands sprinkled in my bag because those discs work. But for me the overall feel of goldline plastic is just superior to anything else. I constantly try other companies products. But after throwing them for a while I tend to think this doesn't do anything I can't do with ..... and I go back.

I carry only innova branded plastic. That includes an occasional discmania disc. The only reason I stayed innova was because of my proximity to their factory, and the awesomeness with which I have been treated by them over the years, as a customer and as a dealer for a time. I just got to know innova as I got to know disc golf, and I want to represent them. I have tried other brands of stuff plenty of times and I have boxes of non-innova plastic. But it only ever enters the bag on a trial basis so I know what the disc is like.

I love innova a lot as stated above, but gold line is pretty sweet. And so is westside stuff.

I'm all Lat/WS/DD because of plastic blends mostly and a few other reasons. Familiarity and I like the glide I don't normally get with other brands and plastics. Also enjoy supporting a hometown company that offers me the best service and friendly staff in DD. I'm not against bagging other brands though and have in the past. It's just that now with all the new releases from these companies I can fill all the slots I need. Until recently I still had a C-PD and occasionally throw another brand in the bag if I'm playing a course or condition that warrants it.
