Best unsponsored players

Keith Warren is probably the Best Non-Sponsored disc golfer in the country, i have seen him play in A Tiers against top ranking pros in which he won 1st place consistently. He only plays a few tournaments a year though because he is always working, he doesn't even play leagues.. can't imagine how good he would be if he was a sponsored touring pro.

Hands down, he has natrual skill.

Came here to say Keith Warren.

One of THE best un-sponsored players around.

Are we talking only Disc Manufacturer sponsorship or are we including all types of sponsors?

Austin Pfaff, the rookie of the year, is not currently sponsored by a disc manufacturer, but I believe he's sponsored by an apparel brand and some local businesses. I could be wrong tho

Can't believe no one has mentioned Lamar Maughan yet!

Hey I know, can't believe that guy hasn't been picked up yet. What an oversight. haha No really, he's a pretty solid golfer, and getting better.

He's my buddy, I play with him quite a bit, but he's not quite there yet. If he devoted his time to touring for a couple years, I think he could get to that level though.

is Bradley Williams sponsored?

Back when he was on here a lot he commented a couple of times about not saying what discs he threw because no one was paying him to do that. That was awhile ago though, not sure about his current status. Based on his personality I don't think the sponsors are knocking down his door though, and I mean that in the least insulting way possible.

One of the very neat things about Keith Warren is that he plays very well off handed. I ran a temp tourney, more than a decade ago now, that he showed up for. Played both rounds with him, and he had such a lead after the first round, that he played right handed the second, and increased his lead.

I played a tournament with him a couple years ago where he was out of first place after round 1 and it was obvious that he was just having fun, but after the resuts he "turned it on" and followed up with one of the hottest rounds i have ever seen and completely pulled away from the field by a sizeable margin by the end of the tournament.

Then this year at the Mad City A-Tier he was absolutely clutch in a playoff against Leiviska, it was quite dramatic and he had an early opportinty to win it right away but he made it interesting. Here is a video:

You have to go to about 4:39:00 and you will see the start of the playoff..

Based on ratings in NC:

Brad Ramsey ~ 1011 - solid 1011 with lots of tournaments under his belt. Not a 1 and done high rating.
Me ~ 998
Hunter Todd ~ 995 but had been hovering at 1000 for ever...

Dont know Ronald Huffman that well @ 1007.
Dennis Young ~ 993 Great player

And by unsponsored I would count any type of sponsorships...even local head shop type stuff. I dont think the people I listed are sponsored by anyone I know I am not.
Josh white out of chapel hill is recently 1000 rated. Only 9 rounds, I suspect it will come back to earth a bit.

apfaff was Discraft for awhile ... has he been picked back up/accepted offers from anyone?

I'm surprised he isn't still with Discraft. He seems like a great golfer with a pretty chill competitive personality. Win, win really. Does anyone know why he isn't anymore?

I've heard some stuff (nothing negative or anything) but I'd rather him comment if he feels the need to since he's on here occasionally

I have played with Huffman. Definitely one of the best players in NC that isn't on "anyone's radar". Ramsey was mentioned as well...I think he was picked up by Another Round DG in Charlotte, though. Sponsorship has a lot to do with how many tournaments you are playing along with that rating or promoting the sport. The more visible you are in tournaments, videos, social media - the more likely you are able to secure/maintain sponsorship.
