2015 Ledgestone NT presented by Discraft

As a lefty, I take offense to hole 17. I have yet to see an image from the tee though. this hole in reverse would blow up the internet.

As a Master, I wouldn't be playing it... I dropped out a month ago. Looks like we get to watch the lead group battle the course Sunday!

All the leaders have great sidearms/thumbers. SO it wouldnt be as bad...but wow...stroke and distance on that is brutal. We will see people that simply are not able to get it in bounds and will take giant scores. Ill agree this might be one of the worst holes I've seen, not just for the design, but a combination of the design and stroke and distance rule. Should be a drop zone if missed drive. Then I would be totally ok with it.

Exactly that Huey. Could be a 300 foot dropzone that is dead straight from 100 feet away from in bounds for all I care, but making a person retee is ridiculous on a hole like that. RIGHTIES wouldn't get in bounds if wind conditions aren't favorable. Imagine it's a headwind, you use your three stable discs trying to get there, and now they are all in the ball field. You are now left with mid-ranges and straight to flippy drivers to try to land in bounds. Good luck.

Wow. Don't get offended, get to work on that forehand! Why shouldn't people with both forehand and backhand be rewarded for their higher skill and ability?

I agree on the re-tee rule though, dropzone would be better.

From yesterday:

NOTE: Two holes at Lake Eureka will feature updated OB rules that will be included in the addendum to the tournament caddy guide. Holes 4 and 17 will be changed as follows:

Hole 4 – OB Rules are clarified to state: The first drive must come to rest across the creek to be considered in bounds. Failing to come to rest across the creek will result in a re-throw from the tee with a 1 stroke penalty. If your second tee shot fails to come to rest across the creek, proceed to the drop zone with a 1 stroke penalty. A shot from the drop zone that does not come to rest in bounds would need to be re-thrown from the drop zone with a 1 stroke penalty.

Hole 17 – OB Rules are clarified to state: If the first drive comes to rest outside of the roped area, re-throw from the tee with a 1 stroke penalty. If your second tee shot comes to rest outside of the roped area, proceed to the drop zone with a 1 stroke penalty. A shot from the drop zone that does not come to rest within the roped area would need to be re-thrown from the drop zone with a 1 stroke penalty.

Because a hole that difficult which required a RHFH instead would cause a hell of a ruckus.

It's not all about the leaders. It's also about the Joe Smoe in last place, as well as the sake of encouraging quality golf holes.

Could someone post a pic of hole 17, or post the link to it? Just want to see what's being discussed. Thanks!

Live scoring update... Matt Kern survived all the crazy OB holes at 1 under par. That is gonna be a top 20 round. Maybe top 10.

Holes 5, 10, 11, and 14 at Northwoods look to be the tough holes... especially 5. 2 birdies, 3 quadbogeys so far.

I've only seen it in the caddy book, not in person, that's my disclaimer.

But from that info it looks like a wide open 308-360 ft shot on a safe hyzer, or a slightly longer straight shot over the OB, will get an easy 3. I think most real pros would expect to be able to make that, shouldn't matter whether its left fade or right fade.

On the other hand if the only forehand technique they have is an overstable driver on a wide S-curve, then its a tough hole, but they deserve a penalty for their limited technique. Tough but fair IMO. If there were several holes like that, I might have a different opinion.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm guessing there's a fence. so 308 feet to clear the fence, then drop almost straight down. seems fair. Oh, that's to place it at the closest in bounds point, want a safer shot, just throw 360 feet and have your disc drop straight down.

Wow, Izak shot a -9 today. Is he staying am and declining cash so that he can win AM Worlds?

IIRC, Anthony Barela mentioned on the Smashboxx podcast that Izak would be back at Am Worlds next year. Anthony, however, is going pro from here on out.
