Disc Golf Pro Tour

My first reaction (for some reason, not sure where this came from, honestly) was a big hope that the pro tour could foster a big pro event in Des Moines. From what I hear of the Worlds there, it would be great to have a notable (i.e. YouTube coverage multiple rounds) event there.

Otherwise, I think this will be a good complement to the other tours for now. Moving forward, I'm interested to see who plays in these events, and whether the role of this tour diverges or supersedes the other organized tours in terms of participation numbers, prize money, and media visibility. Sounds like the organizers have aimed to address some of the frustrations others have mentioned about the NT schedule (McCabe on DGAM). I like the idea of points being used to encourage players to play in all events, and to play in less-populated events. And if this effort is successful, it seems like some bigger sponsorships might be more likely because a company could sponsor multiple events and have a wider presence more efficiently.

Our first video trailer. Enjoy. This is going to be a year to remember!

Is it common for dg media companies to pay events/tours to cover their events for them? I ask out of ignorance and I noticed they mention payment on the website: http://www.discgolfprotour.com/media.html

Not yet. As such, we do not expect payment from many media partners yet, however it is important to set the expectation that this is where we are headed and, as the tour viewership grows, the coverage opportunities will become more valuable.

Thanks for the question!

Compared to other avenues, the DGPT looks the most promising. They're setting themselves up with great talent, and not pushing things out faster than they need to. I hope this takes off and does well.

^Agreed. I see the DGPT as the next step up from some of the local tours around the country, like the Spike Hyzer tours here in the Carolinas; several linked PDGA events which are close together (here they're much closer geographically than the DGPT but still) and which culminate in a final tour championship. I could definitely see the DGPT growing to be several regional tours which all end in a final event, somewhat like how NASCAR does their touring series below the Trucks, which is two tours (East and West) that run racetracks which are close together geographically and which cross at a couple events.

The DGWT is another way to grow the sport, and it will definitely get the sport exposure, but I'm not so sure if it's a sustainable idea, whereas the DGPT seems to take the grassroots growth of our sport and step it up a notch, while still keeping the same basic method of operation. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this plays out this upcoming season

Ditto! There is an insane amount of planning to pull this off and so far we have tremendous support from the players (yes, we are working on stuff we have not yet shown you all! :)), the venues, these forums and yes, even the PDGA!

Here is a sneak peek at the trailer we will be releasing on our Facebook page this afternoon. Shhh....

Who else from DGCR is getting in on the package registration deal? There are a few I'm hoping to see at all 5...NotRoman, Horseman, Dana...

I like the idea of registering once for 5 A tiers. No headaches worrying about missing a deadline or not being able to compete in one of the events.

Will not be at any unfortunately, will be in South Dakota for work starting in March for about a year.

For anyone that wants to sign up for all five of the Pro Tour events,
we have a non-transferable, non-refundable option:

When you purchase the Pro Tour Player Pass at $880 is that a discounted price from what it would be normally?

The non-transferable, non-refundable option seems to me to be a thorny one for individual players.

I'd suggest a similar option might work well for folks who sponsor teams. A team could secure a set number of spots (probs minimum of two) for team members at each event. The team decides which players fill which spots at which events, allowing some flexibility for players and their sponsors.

Definitely a lot happening over at DGPT.

Yea im jut trying to figure out why they would do it. Well why they would do it without a ratings cap.

Yeah, I am wondering the same thing. These events have some capacity I would imagine. Unless I'm mistaken, this package deal bypasses tiered registration and the need to qualify. I'm assuming that the qualifying criteria for the 2016 Maple Hill Open will have to change...maybe not. Personally I love the idea. Lots of advantages to the package deal.

Seriously reconsidering my 2016 dg schedule now that this might be an option.

I didnt even think about the Vibram Open Qualifications that it bypasses, I would think that something would have to change to make this happen
