2019 Pros Switching Sponsors Official Thread

Follow up: source is claiming Ricky will have his name on KC Aviars and Teebirds. Definitely take this for what it's worth.

Interesting. I wonder if they would leave the name of the plastic as "KC pro" but just stamp his name on the kc aviar. Or they could change the plastic name to "RW pro", but I'm not sure that would happen. Although these rumors are developing quickly, who knows... anything can happen at this point. Guess we have to keep waiting and speculating until Jan 1st for everyone's contracts to expire to find out

They already did RW-Pro, it was a rubber/wood blend, I believe.

Ricky 100% used the KC Aviar.

In Prodigy's first year, players were using their previous discs, with wiped stamps and prodigy logos on them. You can find some Prodigy stamped Aviars, Teebirds, TLs etc out there for sale randomly.

The first year of this, Ricky won Texas States and it was very windy. Paul infamously posted when talking about the wind that it was nice to see an Innova disc work so well in the wind when talking about how well Ricky putted.

I also can see Drew Gibson commenting that on Ricky's post to stir up some ****. Seems to be his jam.

You know that feeling when you revisit a really good mold that you had gotten away from? I'm sure Ricky would have a great 2019 throwing KC Aviars, Destroyers, Firebirds etc again.

My thoughts on the Ricky rumors:

1) I'm betting Ricky is on the fence and Drew is giving this the hard sell to get Ricky to commit. Not a bad play.

2) If I'm Ricky, I am not sure I'd want to go to Innova. He lived the first part of his career in McBeth's shadow, and now he is stepping into the "replacement" role? I know it would be a homecoming and he lives close to Innova East, and I am sure they pay would be worth it. But I dunno, man...

It's interesting to contemplate how Innova would market Wysocki returning to the fold.

All he has to do is win more and move back over PMB into the #1 ranking and I don't think anyone will be talking about Ricky being in the shadow, nor being the "replacement".

Does your source mean he'll have Tour Series discs of those molds (i.e. like James Conrad has a tour series JK Aviar called a JC Aviar)? Or that he/she thinks they're going to take those discs away from Climo/Avery and give them to Rick?

I could see the former scenario, the latter I can't ever see happening personally.

I don't know if I agree with that narrative tbh. I'm not sure he really was casting the big shadow before Prodigy started wooing players in the 2011 season. I think they both broke out around the same time. Paul won 2 NT's in 2011, but Ricky won his first Major (PDGA Championship). Paul had been building a nice bit of momentum on the NT scene, but Ricky was still an amateur playing Open up until Hambrick in 2010.

I think it comes down to the contract. If he gets a better offer from innova, and lat64 doesn't match, what's to consider? They've supported him, but he's also one of the top players in the world and a serious marketing asset for whatever company's plastic circles he throws. Careers in professional sports aren't that long and in disc golf aren't worth 'set for life money' so if he gets a better deal that's ample reason for him to take it, narrative nonwithstanding

If I were in Ricky's shoes I think this would be best case scenario...

Your arch nemesis goes out on a limb for a yet to be disclosed blockbuster deal. You slide right into a deal with the biggest manufacturer in the game, which you'd have to assume was better than Lat64 was giving him previously. Let Sexton be the face of the company, Ricky just needs to win titles and nothing else. A lot more pressure on Paul to succeed than Ricky, even though he is assuming the role of "the replacement". Innova has enough polished personalities to not put that pressure on Ricky.
