DGPT: 2019 Great Lakes Open presented by DISCRAFT July 5-7

In 2000 Worlds, played one shotgun round on Toboggan plus a second round on Tunnel in the same day. And, (in grandpa voice), "all holes went uphill..." ;)

...and it was a thousand degrees...and lions...and tigers...and bears!!! :)

(and I threw about a thousand shots it seemed)

Continues the Monty Python skit:

You had courses with established holes? You were lucky!!

In my day, we had to create the fairways as we went, battling all manner of beast, fowl, and insect hoards. People have no idea what the rough is anymore!

It wasn't that bad though.
I rather miss the flame spurts, lightning sand, and the dreaded Rodents of Unusual Size. :D

Lol. It's perfectly reasonable for one of the events most visible competitors to put its TD on blast for failing to execute the most basic functions of his job.
Your standing up for dude is not cool at all. Competitors who travel deserve better than this.

I mean heaven forbid I want to hear both sides of the story. Of course, if you bothered to read any of my other posts here you'd see I am not really taking up for the TD - just trying to understand the situation better.

I disagree here. I don't think a player should touch the course. That's the TD's job.

I'm not sure how things run around your area, but the players are the TD's. The guys running this event are not disc golf business folks. They are tournament and casual players donating their time to grow the game. I think all players should be looking for the opportunity to pitch in at tournaments, leagues....heck even an occasion trash bag round should not be above the privileged standards of the traveling players.

This is entitled and and weak. Sorry....because they travel and play disc golf for a living should most certainly not entitle them to more than a local. There is an 144 AM side A-Tier as part of this tournament as well. Should it be anticipated that water has been available on those to courses in addition to Toboggan?

I have played many A-Tiers and AM Worlds and never had expectations outside of a playable course and the opportunity to have some fun. I have played these tournaments with the most rudimentary of tee signs, no water and no caddy book. Always saw it as my responsibility to print of a sweet DGCR scorecard and map. Get out and play the courses and make some notes, pay attention in the players meeting. Often have got the chance to hook up with a local or two for the practice round for insider knowledge. And certainly to bring my own snacks and drink.

I am pretty sure that I have not seen or heard of any pros helping out at a tournament. I don't just mean touring pros, but pros in general. Tournament TD's, volunteers, club activists and members, course clean up, maintenance and installation are all done around here by AM's. I just don't buy into the thought process that traveling players are entitled.

Earhart brothers on the same card tomorrow. Good to see some illinois boys in the hunt!

I love how JC always takes the TDs side...

Why run an A-tier under the DGPT banner if you're not going to have the courses ready (especially with a redesign you didn't bother finishing?).

A dude on reddit posted he was turned away from spotter duties after using a vacation day as the volunteers were full. (Apparently they were to be paid a misprint disc per hour of volunteering?)

You all can argue the "entitled pros don't do the work", but that's literally all the PDGA has ever been: a means to support Pro Disc Golf, built on Am registrations and memberships, and hard work by volunteers.

And what if everyone from the PDGA and Steve Dodge himself are so far away on their own little planets, that posting to social media is the only appropriate action? Aren't the PDGA purists always going on about how the PDGA is a player run organization...? The PDGA can't hold TDs who rip off vendor partners accountable. So who would one turn to?

If I paid $225 to play a tournament and showed up to an unfinished course and had to help set OBs and hang tee signs, I'd make sure everyone knew it...best player in the game or not.

Poor disc golf. Always ends up a joke.

Really? I see the PDGA as anything but supporting the pro side of the sport. hmm...

IMHO that (or something very similar) was what Steve Dodge was angling for with his DGPT coverage, and what Jussi had dreams of with the DGWT coverage. But they way they went about it failed, for various reasons we need not rehash here...

You are the only one rehashing.

I thought yesterday's coverage was the best live production DGPT has ever put out. I can't wait for today's coverage to begin. This is the first time I can remember watching Kevin Jones. He is just cranking his drives... better watch out Paul.

Spent the last two days working the red tape for the lead card, so I've been able to see the best action up close and personal. I wouldn't say I had a favorite player before, but I might now. As great as Kevin Jones is playing, I think I like the person more than I like the player. Got nothing but nice things to say about him.

One of the best parts of my day was the turkey flying right over my head as the lead card went up the hill on 17.

I wanted to snap a pic of the bird with the players eat hung the bird and the basket in the background, for the critters on the course thread, but it flew away before I could get my phone out get the image. :(

I'll be there for lead cars tomorrow with my two boys. My 8yr old is quite the Macbeth fan!
