OK I know there are 150+ courses in Iowa and many are niners but there are still 32 unreviewed courses in this state. I am so curious about Iowa because it's got a rep as a great DG state with many great courses. It is also just south of Minn and Wisconsin which seem to be DG hotbeds. I just wish there was a Harr from Iowa to take up the slack. Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Texas all have over 10 unreviewed courses. Iowa is by far the most disappointing though. I'd imagine no one will care about this post as no one even acknowledges Iowa or it's courses exists and obviously if a cow farts in Iowa theres no one there to smell it so why bother thinking about it.

HaHa sounds like a plan! We can live on stolen corn and milk. I might even crop circle DGCR in a cornfield to create some buzz!

I took a road trip through both Iowa and Nebraska in the last 2 years. I played a ton of non-reviewed course if you take a look at what I reviewed. So, even though I am from TX, you will notice that I cared a whole hell of a lot. I think I played something like 75% un-reviewed courses as it was. So, yes, there are still some out there, but I did care to go hit all of those I could within my means.

NE - had some of the most fun little 9 holers and some of the worst that I have seen. Some were so unplayable & unsafe to play due to little kids throughout the day, that I had to even give them zeros.

IA - well, many of the little courses used grass 3-5 feet tall to make a rough that would create their narrow fairways. This is not my idea of a fun way to play disc golf. You could miss the fairway by just a little bit or even hit the middle of the fairway and skip into the rough and you would be searching for your disc. It got frustrating. There is also lots of little rec type courses there too. Keep in mind I played mostly the Central and Eastern side of the state.

Thanks bro! I think I did both those trips in 5 days each. I would play a course and then while driving between courses I recorded as audio review. Then that night or days later I could go back and do the review.

I've played over 40 courses in Iowa and have only been disappointed in about 2 or 3 courses. They have a lot of 9 holers which are decent. I normally try to play courses along the Cedar river which flows thru central Iowa. Will try to review more courses this spring and summer during some road trips. So far, my favorites in Iowa 1) Wildcat Bluffs in Urbana, 2) Eagle Point in Clinton, 3) Turkey Creek in Iowa City, Memorial Park in Ottumwa. Every course I have played there, little to noone have been on the courses. Iowa is a disc golf mecca and I still have not played around Des Moines or Quad Cities, which I hear have the best courses.

You're just trying to goad me into a reply, aren't you? Won't work.

I am trying to plot a trip for the summer and wanted some better info on Iowa......still waiting....

Really not trying to start a flame war with anyone from Iowa!

The Des Moines area was the best I saw on my trip for sure.

There are several threads floating in the archives regarding peoples trips to flyover land.

Des Moines is Chicago West for some gangs. We're small, but getting some big city problems all the time. It's a small concentration of the city. Just be careful where you roam.

As for the golf, the best will be found in the population centers of Des Moines/Ames, Quad Cities, Iowa City/Cedar Rapids and Cedar Falls/Waterloo. This is where we have some experienced designers at work. Some of the outlying towns will have courses designed by a qualified person/group, but most of the hinterland courses are plopped in by noobs who think there's nothing to course design and it shows.

As for reviews, I might be the most prolific reviewer in the state but I have only done the ones I've played since joining the site, which includes places I've been on vacation and those in-state that are close to Ames. I could do some reviews of at least half of the courses in the state, but I'd be going from memory from at least 2 years back and that wouldn't be fair or accurate.

I hear ya'll, I'm from Ottumwa Originally, and I play as many as I can when I come back. I'm just as surprised as ya'll. I can't believe that there aren't more course reviews! I know there are people playing the sport! Ottumwa has some great courses, but yet has 1 to 3 reviews on each course. I need to play Memorial and Wildwood again, before I can do a good review. So the next time I'm up there, I'll do it. ...but I have an excuse, a 1900 mile excuse. I know they are playing, I just don't know why they aren't on here. If I was up there, I'd put the DGCR fliers on the courses.

maybe iowa courses are super nice and secluded and want to keep em that way? :\

Being from the state, I could actually believe that! Some towns in Iowa, Don't like "Strangers"! Even if they are from the next town over! I am not lying! On the state license plate, it lists the county you are from. Sometimes the cops will profile you based on your county. Pella, Iowa is one of them! Yes, Pella windows home town.

One reason is that not many players from Iowa frequent this site.

Iowa

I live in Omaha (on the Nebraska/Iowa border) and have only played a couple courses on the western side of Iowa. Treasure Cove in Council Bluffs and Sunnyside in Atlantic are solid 4-star courses that I enjoy a lot. I did play Ewing in Des Moines once when I was just starting. I was planning on playing a couple more Des Moines courses this past fall, but the AC/DC concert in Des Moines got cancelled, so I didn't make the trip. Double whammy.

I've been working on the review problem. However, being from the extreme Southeast corner of the state (hence KEOKUKdiscer), it make take me a little time to get to all of them. I've gotten everything within 40 minutes of my house. Hopefully, I'll get everything within an hour and a half next year. Of course it won't hurt if I had a little help. hint hint
