JMD27 2020 ITB

Considered the M4, and by all accounts, would probably do well. However, I am also picky in that I don't like to rely on beat up discs. I think the M4 would start off too stable, and relative to a slightly seasoned ETruth. I don't mind throwing a seasoned disc (maybe one or two seasons, then they usually hit the shelf), but I've lost go-to beat up discs, and it's a bad feeling. Also… only throw premium plastics… golly, I'm a picky MF… I have my reasonings though. Looking for that off the shelf flight, more or less. I might acquire a fuse and give that a go. The US mids will all have to duke it out!

Heads up the Fuse has as much of a bead as the Harp does, so that might be out.

Played a 1 round flex start C tier (MA1) at Hidden Meadows, heading into the three day LSO (MPO) event. Got 2 of 12. The guy who won MA1 shot the hot round of the day, besting the pros by a couple strokes. I shot -1 to course par, which is around 960-970. Not terrible. Took a bad double bogey on hole 9 and a lame bogey on 12. Erase those and I am playing closer to 1000. Oh well.

=3, =4, =5, =3, =3, =3, =3, -2, ++5,
=3, -3, +4, -3, =4, =3, =4, =3, -3

Straightforward bag.

Judge used, putting was solid, less 2 circle misses
Judge beat, one big circle 2er
Proxy plasma, performed well, thrown a handful
Envy plasma, no throws
Zone ESP, one bad tree hit, FH ups were fine
Warrant Lucid, barely missed the two lines I threw
Truth Lucid, one good, one bad
ETruth Lucid used, workhorse
ETruth Lucid less used, no throws
Verdict LX, no throws
Heat ESP, no throws
Undertaker Z beat, the shot that got the double…
Undertaker Z less used, did fine
Getaway Lucid, no throws
Felon Lucid beat, actually did well off the T FH
Felon Lucid less used, no throws
Felon LX, one upshot, got me a birdie on a P4
Trespass Lucid, getting flippy… half fine/half not fine

I don't foresee using distance drivers too much for the LSO. Only a couple shots. So the main bag will likely remain unchanged, just sub/add distance drivers.

I am getting pretty inconsistent results with the Trespass. I think I'd like to try a new Distance driver. Maybe the Hurricane. Just want something as comfy as the trespass with more stability. Shrugs.

Rainy round at White Cedar for the first round of LSO. Was a very frustrating time. Cedar is a score-able course on even decent days, but with the wind and rain… bogey felt good on most holes. I shot four down on my practice round last weekend. Was thinking par would be the worst I would do. Nope… not at all. +3 for the round. Probably the most disappointing round in a while. It was still 951 rated. But I got down to even with 4 to play. Took a bad double (on an OB drive) and a lazy bogey to finish. Weather, mud (eating ish multiple times), cold, wet… just not fun. Oh well.

Similar bag. Threw a bio enforcer off the big downhill number one. Everything else was putters mids or fairways.

Will bag a couple trespasses for tomorrow's round at SMF longs. This will be the most difficult course of the event. Long tees there are very hard. Par 61. I just want to throw good.

Well, what I learned is I need to learn how to finish a round. I could have averaged maybe 20 points higher if I didn't end each round with unnecessary bogies.

Rnd 2 at SMF on Saturday was mostly clean. I performed poorly on the par 5s (double and singles bogies) and finished the round poorly, with a lazy bogey on 18. Missed 4 inside the circle putts for birdie… +2 round.

Rnd 3 at HM on Sunday was going so well!!!! Until the last 5 holes…. I was -5 with 5 to go. Would have been close to a 1000 rated round if I just PAR'd out!!! Instead, went +1, +1, -1, +2, +1 (so +4) to finish the round at -1. Same score as Thursday, but so much more disappointing. I just lost it. Would have been close to cashing, too… frustrating.

Averaged above my rating for the weekend at 958. I am crossing fingers that I could hit 950 next update, as I have a couple ~900 rounds dropping, too, I think.

Anyway.. I might try to squeeze one more sanctioned event in before end of year, but that might be far fetched.

I got an Prodigy A2 and a couple Enigmas with thursdays winnings. A2 for trying something more stable than a zone (to spread the gap between the Envy and OS approach), and the Enigmas for getting something that starts out more OS than a trespass.

Well, today's update was a good one. Jumped up 10 to 955. The benefit of losing some bad rounds, coupled with some good play as of late helped me leapfrog that 950 mark (something I've been wanting to do for a couple years now). Cool.

Bag-wise, I haven't been playing much. Busy weekends, garbage weather, and being a new dad all compound to less playing.

I've been toying with the Enigma. Fun mold. Flies real far. Idk if it will replace the trespass yet. Similar stability. Maybe a little added distance relative to the trespass. I like the trespass and have some plastics in it that are more OS, so I can cover a bit more of the stability spectrum with just the trespass mold. Might have to add in something a little more OS if the enigma were to replace it. Shrugs.

Congrats! That's a great achievement!

I'll say the courses I play I don't really throw a distance driver that often, but I do on a couple holes. Tossing the enigma in place of the trespass, and it has consistently gotten me further down the fairway on similar lines/effort to the trespass. I think the enigma is currently the favorite for the distance driver spot in the bag.

It's the time of year where I play less and think more. I get to this point and think things like "should I go mold minimalist?" "Should I try replacing ____?" Etc… with no real rhyme or reason. Oh well.

Shot a PB at Carlton today, improved by 4 strokes (previous vest was -4). Aside from two holes, best round for not hitting trees in a very long time.

Off the T:

Undertaker (Z fresh): hole 1
Undertaker (Z worn): holes 3, 8
Felon (Lucid fresh): holes 2, 4, 13, 16
ETruth (Lucid fresh): hole 18
ETruth (Lucid worn): holes 11, 12
Verdict (LX): 17
Warrant (Lucid): holes 14, 15
Reko (K1 used): holes 7, 9, 10
Zone (Z): holes 5, 6

Honestly put myself in good spots where I only had one or two big putts. Feels good to shoot like that. Only took an hour, too.

I don't feel the need to start a new thread… idk if the mods look at these threads, but if ya do, could you just change the title to "JMD27 ITB" por favor?

Anyway, it warmed up to 20, and there was only about 1 to 3 feet of snow at the course, so played a quick round at UMD. ITB:

K3 Hard Reko

Its getting kinda flippy, but it was also kind of windy.

they finally put concrete pads in all at carlton

Yeah they did! They were pretty rough at first, and resulted in a bit of traction, but it'll improve. They are a bit small, too. Course is awesome though. Just need to get rid of the bad baskets on the front nine (change to all veterans like the back nine), and boom!

any time line on making matching baskets

what rating would you give it currently

Carlton was really fun. I wish I had that course near me. The tees sucked but the lines were sweet. Rugged Northwoods golf.

I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I thoroughly enjoyed that course.

I don't think there is a timeline for new baskets. I mean, I feel petty complaining when there are 18 buckets there heh.

If the course was in clean conditions for DG, I'd likely top out at a B- or C+. So 3.5 stars? The DG is really fun, variable from hole to hole. Couple odd Mandos, small pads and diff baskets kinda knock it, but when Superior Municipal is closed, Carlton is probably my most played course, if that says anything.

As for actually rating courses in DGCR (or UDisc), I don't really do it. Courses generally evolve/change/improve, so I feel a snapshot-in-time rating might not be the best judge of a course. That's just me. Maybe ratings/reviews can be modified on here?

its my most played in the duluff area too

however i get a cheap pleasure from ace running at that other 9 hole pitch and putt in cloquet

do you have any local knowledge of why its taken so fn long to shape that course up

its like 5 years in progress i know if that was the case around the stc area or mpls/stp that would be completely unacceptable

the part that pains me the most is how much potential it has

i would easily take carlton as a home course (provided its either all dirt pads or all concrete pads)

Transitioned to 18 holes in 2018. Nine buckets and the concrete pads were recycled then, and nine new buckets added, which had dirt pad locations.

It is completely put together and maintained by volunteer labor, but materials were provided by the city last year. It was just a matter of getting everyone together/on the same page to get it finished. TBH, the volunteer corp around the area is maybe meager, though it is getting better. So it just took time and desire to get it done (thanks B Tribs and crew!). I wish I could say I was part of the volunteer corps, but I only get out maybe two or three times a year to help, so I could be better.

Anyway, just took some time and lining things up. Happy it's done now!

If you haven't yet, get to superior municipal forest this season. Two pads on 14 holes, all concrete as of this last year. Very fun. Score on the front and last few, survive the middle.
