Paige Pierce #29190

This is all true. And upon further reflection, maybe the crazy part is that Eric and Tina can afford a house. Which is fantastic but surprising.

Totally agree. Not that these are necessarily their only sources of income, but...

I don't see Eric pulling in big money from DD and event winnings, or Whale Sac generating that much income.

Nothing off the Oakleys. I don't know their financial situation, nor is it my business, but they got to have moar coming in than just DG related income. I'd be surprised if Tina doesn't have a full time job doing something.

Plus, that part of the state may be more affordable than we think.

Their house in Florida looked pretty modest on the video they did with Calvin after Waco 2020, cant imagine the mortgage was much over $1000/mo at that time, and It probably doubled in value since. Not only is it not suprising they can get approved (I was approved for over 700k which is actually crazy and would make me a slave to my house as prices/taxes/insurance go up even more) it seeems like they are making good decisions with their money.

I realize Finny was just having fun. Just pointing out that it makes sense to really take advantage of these insanely low mortgage rates.

I'm not a financial planner or advisor. I don't even play one on TV. But I get how interest, time, and money work.

Interest rates for home mortgages are (quite literally), at truly historic lows. Pretty easy to get a rate below 3% today. In fact, you'd probably have to put some effort into doing worse than 3%.

Someone Paige's age will end up much further ahead by putting less down, and borrowing more at some rate below 3%, and investing the difference in a reasonably stable, growth type mutual fund.

...except that the cash buyer wins the competition and gets to buy the house.

I totally relate to what she says here.
Bet many of you can, too.

No doubt, the most enjoyable rounds I have had were the solo rounds at 6:00 am with no one else on the course. Just you the course and the disc.

For me it is hard to reconcile that with leagues and tourneys and the ball busting bros out talking smack between every shot. For me it is a completely different game.

Nice new in-the-bag from PP

Very simple bag, Just 3pc of drivers in one mold!
Only surprise was the WASP. . .and how few molds she have

I was once playing a solo round at Bicentennial Park in Crowley, TX. Probably 15 years ago or so. A girl and an older dude caught up to me and ended up joining me. The girl said she was 16 and introduced herself as Page Pierce and told me the guy was her coach. I had no idea who she was but we played the rest of the round and I couldn't believe a teenage girl was beating me.

Definitely one the best, if not the best in the bag video.

What made it so good is that she actually explained everything. Other players do an excellent job talking about what shots they might use certain discs for, but it was good to see her nearly identical backup bag, the bag with new stuff she's learning, the dedicated putter practice bag, and the boxes of other backups.

It was also surprising to see she actually throws just a handful of molds.

I mean, Kenny basically threw Teebirds, Rocs, and Aviars didn't he? I guess Destroyers later on too

Yeah, no clue if there's any validity to it, but my own personal take over the years throwing Innova: people complain about inconsistencies…I almost think those are semi intentional.

Sure if you're the largest manufacturer you're running more discs than anybody else, and you're bound to have variation. Seems like every couple years those bread and butter molds…teebird, firebird, valkyrie, wraith, destroyer, etc flip flop from being on the flippier end of the spectrum to the beefier end, and eventually settle into something everybody likes.

Not sure if that's so players can bag several of whatever mold we're talking about or not. I wouldn't necessarily say they do it specifically for their pros, but it seems like you see more Innova pros than other brands sticking to a few core molds and having a variety of stabilities. I know a lot of people complain about their inconsistencies but it's not bothered me too much, as long as you've got a local supply to check out it's pretty easy to find what you're looking for.

Climo had nine of his World Championships before TeeBirds were a thing. Vipers, man...everybody was throwing Vipers. You can try to rewrite history and act like we weren't, but we were.

It's serious drift from Paige Pierce; but back on DGR we had this long conversation about throwing slower discs and it was Gazelle this and Gazelle that like the Gazelle was the gold standard of 90's disc golf drivers. Almost no one threw Gazelles. Vipers were the ubiquitous driver of disc golf; everybody threw one. Gazelles, Cheetahs, Banshees...none of them could dethrone the Viper.

Then they made the TeeBird and suddenly you couldn't sell a Viper if it came with a date with Elle Macpherson*. :|

*yes, I'm old. I already admitted to throwing Vipers, what else do you want from me?

The best thing you can do for your game is be intimately familiar with how a small loadout of molds works. Of course you can expand from there, but everyone can take their "workhorse" molds - probably 6 or so discs - and play quite effectively for almost any course and condition. Even if you're a 'let the disc do the work' person it's beneficial to have that core of your bag you can pretty much always trust.

Pros play so much more than us, and most of them have that same philosophy. You don't see a lot of Feldberg style lineups by the absolute elite pros (unless they are heavily forehand dependent, then your range of molds is likely expanded) It's not really that surprising that one of the premier FPO players has a fairly condensed lineup.
