Silver Series: 2022 Beaver State Fling Jun 10-12

Can't confirm but someone indicated that the chain top was Pro 28 but the tray was Pro 24 that had been welded and may have been slightly off alignment. The Pro 28 trays were specifically designed with smaller gaps to reduce the gap size on the Pro 24s that were grandfathered in when the Championship target specs were created. Some trays that had been approved prior to the spec update had gaps that exceeded those new gap maximums.

My opinion: He made the putt. The basket failed. That was obvious to anyone who watched the video. He shouldn't be penalized for an equipment failure.

While I agree it stinks, if there is nothing in the rules to address this situation, not sure what can really be done. I think the rules failed Corey as much as the basket. To me, this is very similar to a football ref saying someone fumbled, when they clearly did not, but may not be reviewable.

That said, I still think I would have called provisional on the tap in, and filed some protest with the TD. McBeth did that at Maple Hill a couple years back and got a stroke back. I think he, like everyone, was kind of in shock. I've never seen or heard of that happening. Wedged in the cage? Yep--done it. Balanced on the rim? Yep--just saw it on video at a recent Echo Valley tournament. Falling through basket? Nope.

It's little different from a bounce out, cut-thru or bounce back. The target has never been a secure holing out device. There are several ways a disc entering the basket within the cylinder can exit the cylinder without staying in. This drop out may seem more egregious but it's only because it can clearly be seen how it happened versus some of the other ways a disc ends up not staying in.

If those who administer the sport really wanted a target to catch the disc more consistently when entering the cylinder, it could have been and still could be done. Not sure there's the will to do so.

I have played on a 3-hole junior course with janky baskets that allowed putts to fall through the cage.

That was funny. Not so much at a pro tour event. :|

I have enough trouble getting putts to find home as it is--don't need baskets conspiring against me too...

Corey did get birdies on two straight holes after that happened, so thankfully it did not seem to directly affect the final results. Of course being down by one less stroke maybe he doesn't run the eagle putt on hole 13 final round, and then is only down by one. And maybe GG feels a bit more pressure and wanks a putt somewhere. So who knows.

I have been wondering for 25 years why basket specs were such to allow discs to enter the side of the tray.

May not have affected the winner but the one stroke was likely worth a couple hundred bucks. (can't tell exactly since payout has not been posted)

So I have to point out Kona's continued struggles.

But what in the world is going on with Paul this year?

savin all the mustard for worlds

why get gassed/risk injury during events that dont matter

We've seen him in the past win a lot of events and still win worlds. He still has to be able to win at big events, which I don't think he's done a lot this year. And what events would you say matter?

But the real question is...
How much was Joel Freeman's Ace worth? :|

Less since Big Jerm was the ace whisperer again in rounds 1 and 2. And then was also on the card for this weeks GK Pro skins match where there was another ace.

So, I was lucky enough to be able to play the event. I qualified late and got in. Round 1 was easily the worst rain that I have ever played in, in my life. Rounds 2 and 3 the rain wasn't as bad but throughout the whole weekend I played exactly 1 hole with the sun out and 53 in the gloom and rain.

Thoughts.
Both hole 18's are boring and lack luster ways to finish out any round at Milo. The long par 3's are really hard and unless you have 500' of power, you are more than likely playing for par at best (which I tried to do and failed many times). The 1200' par 5 on the east course is no joke. Easily the hardest par 5 I have played. If you have 1 mistake you are taking a bogey most likely. I need to learn how to throw rollers, you kinda need it here to score better.

Any discussion in the clubhouse about Corey's putt/not putt? Any pro ideas on dealing with such things?

Has the PDGA or DGPT came out with a statement or ruling on Corey's putt? I have searched the net and can find nothing.

I don't think there's much to say about it unfortunately. It was a missed putt.

If anything maybe the DGPT says something about being more stringent about the condition of equipment at their events. After the fact one of the other players on the card (don't remember who) was jamming his putter into that exact section of the basket to recreate the fall out and the disc didn't even come close. It was a total fluke…dunno what you can say other than that?
