Raleigh NC

Slows things down to some extent. If it's only one, and they know speed is important; then it can speed things up. For me, it usually slows things down; but that's cause I spend time enjoying the others company; and usually encourage more than one; to get to know the locals a bit. But, I think both Jack and Huey would be willing to meet you solo, if you ask, and play fast.

Generically, if I play 8am to 5pm, 5 courses at 1.5 hours each and 30 in between each destination to allow for drive, food, and also longer rounds, already puts me at 8-530. I already think I cannot play the Renny Gold or Charlottes Web layouts due to length (or even Reedy Stout layout). I'm thinking I'll have to stick to the classic courses. But that's why I want your opinions!

Renny black is considered as good as gold by most; but is still long. Good local players showed us Renny and they suggested black. Nevin is long. Web layout is long too; but the other layout is just as quality. Many, again locals, say the Stout layout is simply long for the sake of being long. We played the shorter version.

Also if you are up in Raleigh it can up to a 2.5 hour drive to Charlotte. Without any bad traffic issues in either city. If you are in Raleigh and have a day, I'd hit local courses only, or go to Cedarock/Wellspring and maybe Reidsviile, or any of the the other regions closer by. Less driving and more playing.

Bored in hotel. post counts don't help me throw any better. go bake a pie.

Sloppy, I want to do Buckhorn, Zebulon, Cedar Hills, and Wellspring too. I think I can one on per night after work with my coworkers on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then I have until 1245 for my flight on Thursday and could get in one or two more. If you were ONLY playing Raleigh and 20 mile radius, give me a list of 6 top courses and why (as long as you're bored in a hotel room anyway)

UNC, Buckhorn, Zeb, Cedarock/wellspring, cedar hills, Middle creek in that order.

2nd this. Though I'd switch cedarock and zeb if distance isn't that big of a concern.

Let me know if you need a guide for cedarock/wellspring, I'll show you the "figure 8" configuration. 36 fun holes in a row.

Ditto what Frank said -- depending on where in Raleigh you are though CedarROCK/Wellspring and Zebulon can be 40+ minute rides to get to.

if you're going all the way out to Cedarock/wellspring i'd recommend Valley Springs up in Durham, 22 holes and 3 sets of tees, play the longs and its tough to par

I'll be staying near the office in South Cary

cedarock might be a quicker drive on that hand.

Yeah, I'm not enamored with Valley Springs either. It gets repetitive and a lot of the longs are just dumb with stupid tight early trees.
