Show Us Your Handicap League Spreadsheet

It doesn't fix the main problem with handicap leagues (the most consistent players don't win much). Instead, it's basically just a pure give-away to the players with lowest averages (granted, these are the people who complain most about not winning in handicap leagues).

I've always argued that multiplying by 80% does not work better. ;)

Oops, there was a typo in the second formula. This should be betteR: =ARRAYFORMULA( IF(COUNT(Scores!$B4:D4)<3,"", round(IF(COUNT(Scores!$B4:D4)<6, (SUM(Scores!$B4:D4))/(COUNT(Scores!$B4:D4))-54...

Show Us Your Handicap League Spreadsheet

Sadly, the operation "take average of the last five non-empty cells" is VERY hard to do in straight Excel. I spent a long time trying to find a straight forward way to do it but could only come up with convoluted solutions that look really ugly and are hard to modify. It should not be...

Show Us Your Handicap League Spreadsheet

I am not really sold on the "percent difference from average" rating method since it doesn't really capture the spread of the scores. I reworked your worksheet using z-scores instead: zscore Rating sheet. Using raw z-scores a rating of of +2.0 means that you crushed everyone, and a -2.0...

    Shoe Review: Merrell Trail Glove

Trail Gloves are my primary disc golfing shoe too. Super comfortable and grippy. I just wish they made a waterproof version.

Cali folks - June 2nd- 6th - ontario, Rancho Cucamonga area

Here is a list of a lot of the weeklies in SoCal: http://socaldiscgolfclub.wordpress.com/courses/monthly-tournament-info/ but none of those are really near you. However, the traffic is usually pretty good going west in the afternoon. :)

Kudos to davetherocketguy for actually uploading a spreadsheet. :) Have you tried this system in an actual league? I am all for trying to things other than the simple "strokes off your average" handicapping but I am never sure how open players will be to it. But... I am not sure that I...

    Signage and Marking a Mando

The very best way to mark a mando is with a large net or section of tall chain link fence. ;) More seriously, in addition to an arrow on the tree or post, it is really nice if you can mark the "perpendicular mando line" somehow (as per http://www.pdga.com/mandatories ) so that it is easy to...

[Question] Canadians, where do you buy online?

I used to live in SW Ontario and most of my disc business went to Marshall Street. sub-$100 orders generally avoid customs fees, and shipping was always pretty reasonable and always quite fast. The Canadian company with the best selection online might be http://www.fullflightdiscgolf.com/ - I...

    The term "hyzers out"

I agree hyzer is the angle whenever, not just at release. Of course, I have an acute feeling that all this talk of angles is just obtuse. Right?

[Vibram] Vibram Disc Golf Thread (Part II)

I had really negative feelings about the name of the new disc, but Steve's video has convince me not to hate on it. I might even buy one. His lo-fi video blog is the best. Also, it's too bad the unLace wasn't project #420 because then they could have said that it was good for rolling.

Show Us Your Handicap League Spreadsheet

I don't know if you intend this, but I think that this system to going to really punish players with higher averages. If your averages are based on enough (4+) rounds, then the chances that a player with a +13 average shoots +8 or better are generally going to be much lower than the chances...

Dropping players' worst round before taking the average can help with that too.

    Colour-coding my bag?

When Axiom has a bigger line up or if Innova releases more overmolds, you could code for stability by rim colour and speed by flight plate colour (or vice-versa).

The DGCR SSE for courses is a decent proxy for a PDGA SSA (for these purposes). It doesn't matter too much if it is a couple strokes off. In your case, since you are capping handicaps at -6, you could use 47 or 48 as your SSE. Of course, in your case, I think the cap and the rounding do all...

Show Us Your Handicap League Spreadsheet

Verbose thoughts on Handicap Any handicapping system, as long as it is applied consistently, can work fine for a weekly league I think. Most often, the handicap systems leagues use are chosen to be easy to explain to players rather than soundly designed to achieve the goal: "The player who...

Show Us Your Handicap League Spreadsheet

Of course I built my project before I knew about the handicapping at DGU. The $0.25 per score doesn't really seem like a large overhead for running a league, but I suspect there are lot of people doing DIY who might otherwise use it. I wonder if a flat rate per week would make people more...

Show Us Your Handicap League Spreadsheet

A spreadsheet to track handicaps for a weekly league is one of those wheels that we all keep reinventing. I'd like to get a nice collection of people's spreadsheets here so that someone trying to start a new league can see what other people have done. I'll start with my elaborate contribution...

[Vibram] Vibram Disc Golf Thread (Part II)

I am a little surprised by the number of people wishing for a more overstable fairway. The Ascent seems plenty beefy to me. That said, a set of speed 9-10 drivers including something PDish overstable would be welcome, and more useful to me than the OLace, let alone the Four20.
