Now that I've finished watching the Jomez coverage of FPO Round 4, the thing that most stood out to me was the professionalism of Paige's commentary, even as she discusses a close tournament she lost - and one that was fraught with conflict with the eventual winner.
This stands in some contrast...
I was about 15 miles west at the time, but I can confirm that right around the 2pm-4pm time window (when the feature card would have been on the course) the greater LA area got an unexpectedly strong wave of steady, heavy rain - versus earlier in the day when it was clear with little wind.
The course at Kenneth Hahn in Culver City is finally official and installed! Westside LA golfers rejoice... 9 holes for now. Excited to get out and play it soon - have only previously played the temp course for Beach City Bowl tournament.
Supposed to get 4.5 inches of rain tomorrow alone. Expect a significant impact on the course for the tournament; it is located in "Hahamonga Watershed Natural Park", after all. Right at the base of the mountains.
Looking like it won't rain much, if at all, on the weekend itself, though.
Not...
This isn't the best footage, but here's a clip : https://youtu.be/Ea8rz-H3KlY?t=4m59s
To reiterate, that drive is just unbelievable. Gotta be close to 500' uphill into a narrow fairway lined with OB.
Hey swos - thanks for your ongoing work to improve the app! Are you planning on doing any more real-world courses? Now that I've improved my attributes, I find myself enjoying the Nokia course the most because I have seen it on video and have memories of pro players tackling each hole.
Looking at the caddy book, it says: "Must come to rest on island to proceed to play from island."
So he was supposed to play his OB drop from the last place it was inbounds on the regular fairway portion of the hole, but instead he dropped a standard meter in on the island (just watched the...
I've been playing the game on iOS for the past couple days and it's well worth the $4. The disc flight physics model is probably the best I've seen in a game so far and I've played most (PS4 Sports Champions, Disc Golf Unchained, etc)
Once you can add more courses and the other throw types...
I've spectated at two Worlds (2011 and 2014) and visited the USDGC once. In terms of the spectator experience, I'd vote for USDGC, but I do think where Worlds is hosted matters; in 2014 I highly enjoyed Portland's variety of courses, for example, and the day I spent watching the top pros...
Totally true. For PGA TOUR events, a dedicated spotter walks with each group, and has a handheld laser device that they use to accurately identify where every single shot begins and ends. Their tech system then overlays that on accurate maps of each hole, including the exact pin location on the...
Yeah, Patrick started tournament play in 2004 in Intermediate, and moved from Open to Masters in 2009, so he was around 34-ish when he played his first PDGA event. I think he began playing maybe a year or two before that in Berkeley, but probably no younger than 31-32 when he took up the sport.
The scuttlebutt around SoCal back at the end of 2014 was that McBeth's overall income for 2014, including tourney winnings and sponsorship, was right around 150k. Heard this from several different sources, but obviously none of them were Paul himself. The general consensus was that following his...
Only have time at the moment for 970+, but I'll take a look at the other groupings later:
hole vs par birdies pars bogies doubles triple+
hole 14 -0.59 61% 38% 1% 0% 0%
hole 10 -0.39 48% 43% 9% 0% 0%
hole 2 -0.33 46% 41% 13% 0% 0%
hole 18 -0.32 45% 43% 10% 1% 0%
hole 5 -0.30 43% 45% 10% 1% 0%...
Ran some quick stats hole by hole - excluded the small number of folks who posted a +10 or higher, so a data set of the top 100 players.
Looks like holes 14 and 10 could be tweaked to be a bit harder, hole 11's tee could be moved up a bit, and holes 9 and 17 (as probably expected with island...
McBeth gets the last to take the sole lead at -11. I figured the hot round would be -9 based on the layout. You'd think by now I'd remember that he's ridiculous...
Also - folks should sign up for a free login to the discgolfworldtour.com website - they'll have some special stuff linked there that you can't get otherwise, it seems. So far it's just the mobile caddy book (which is really phenomenal).
Ah - I get it now - makes a ton of sense. Yeah, the hole as they're playing it would not be appropriate for general players (it's actually more dangerous for noob hyzers than the regular hole!)
I haven't read anywhere as to whether or not they're leaving in the new tees; I know the baskets...
