10KLDG - Minnesota Disc Golfers Unite

...We need another really big hole 18 course to go in on the Westside...

Actually, we need 4 up in Brooklyn Center, 4 very near Minneapolis, and 4 very near St. Paul. That will get the core (where most of the population lives) served as well as the suburbs.

That DON'T all close during the winter! St.Paul probably has the best choices right now just too bad Oakwood isn't a liiiiittle closer though...Would love to see some good 18's up in the North Metro with Ham Lake now being a 9 :( there really are no large courses between BRP, Elm Creek & down to Bryant/Hyland or if you head up to Becker... :\

Chuck & Steve- Thanks for all you do for DG and especially here for us in MN. You guys are great assets to DG.

The problem is that there is no good land in Brooklyn park for anything larger than 9 holers, at least not quality holes anyway. Maple Grove and Dayton still has some good park land available. That is what is so disappointing with Elm Creek. I understand that it is a park reserve and much of the land needs to be preserved, but there is still plenty of space between the chateau and the large playground that is not really "reserve" land. There could be some championship level holes in there. As much as I struggle with holes 4 and 5, I would rather see more of these.

#4 should be an easy FH for the aceee! lol... #5 really is one of the harder par 3's though you have to hit that long flex line just perfect and agree the rest of Elm really lacks any spread outside a few holes. LOTS of land there like you said and the wide open hills get a little old. those 90*+ afternoons are rough there too with little cover its like a grassy(weed filled) desert.

League won't go back to Lakewood till the snow is gone. As for s. metro only thing going is Ali dubs, red oak MIGHT start up again soon, but no one is even 75% sure on that one. Kenwood might not have a league this year either.

I didn't even know Kenwood had one, damn I live down near there. Anywhere to get info on that?

It was run by Darnell last summer, but not many people went to it. Most of the competitive players in the state live more towards the north of the cities, so they'd go to Lakewood doubles instead. I'll be talking with Darnell tomorrow so I'll ask him if he's going to run it again this year.

I'm waiting to hear of what becomes of KP. Sounds like FF contract is up and Ross Brandt is trying to take over and do what FF couldn't/wouldn't. Also Critter's league there. Pretty sure Cale, Ross, and Critter want to do leagues there this year. Ross's will most likely be a dubs league :p

Wow, a lot of ifs from a state that is supposed to be one of the most active in the country.

I hope Alan does pick up a league at Crown. As for the East Side, I am right back to my original complaint about the West Side. I do not have time during the school year to hit them up, but they are the better suited courses for leagues and tournaments. Maybe during the summer.

Off topic but if you are not in the know, you will be now.
My Fly-By DGL is hosting a course Grand Opening for St. Mathias DGC designed by yours truly, south of Brainerd, MN with a Vibram Birdie Bash on Saturday, May 18th. It is a 9 hole course fully wooded but we will have 9 temp holes set up to make it two rounds of 18. Check it out through the Vibram Disc home page, tab Birdie Bash, search on map. You'll see us there!

The course is currently closed because we are still working on finishing up the fairways and signage. Once the signage is complete, everyone should be able to navigate the course with ease, even if you are partially blind.

How far south of Brainerd? I live in Maple Grove but I teach everyday in Mille Lacs (Nay Ah Shing High School, right across the street from the casino). The only courses on my way to and from school is Elm Creek (when open), Elk River, Princeton, and Milaca.

For the most part I have given up on Elk River and Milaca, but I can hit Princeton if I am not carpooling with the person I come up with in Maple Grove.

Brainerd is about 30 minutes from where I teach, but unforunately in the wrong direction (north). So the only thing I have hit in the area is Lum Park, and that was only once because I skipped out on a voluntary meeting but still had to be back at school later.

Everyday as I drive up and down Hwy 169 I gaze out at some of the nicest looking land that could be converted into a course. I see some wonderful potential holes out there that include tight wooded fairways, rolling elevation, small water hazards, and some wide open bombers that still have some obstacle to keep it from being boring.

Well if anyone needs a hand keepin stuff running. I'm game.
