Let's help the noobs and help others streamline their bags. A lot of other discs have specialist functions (aka do something "better", but these 6 should allow any shot or shot selection to be possible.)
my picks... i'm primarily an innova guy, so my selection is limited....
I also shoot a conservative game... (i shoot to keep the disc in a playable position rather than go for something more radical.) I realize that i am missing a turnover shot, but with proper hand placement or a compliment sidearm it can be overcome.
Distance:
Wraith - There may be longer, faster or better. But from experience, and what i've seen most often, this is the #1 disc. It's most consistent, easy to throw and can serve as an all purpose distance driver. Very good sidearm, and decent in headwinds.
Eagle - This is a fairly straight, easily controlled driver. Any distance driver will beat it, but it will be a close second. The most important aspect of this driver is that it is easily controlled and handles most lines. Great wind fighter and a very good sidearm disc. Makes for a great precision driver.
Leopard - The ability to shoot arrow straight and controlled distances would help almost anyone in their fairway driving and approaches. If you can see the pin and have a straight shot from 250 feet (or less) you should be able to park every time. It also makes for a very good short range driver. The absolute precision isnt there, but the placement is....
Roc - It's the #1 frisbee golf disc for a reason. I didnt believe it until i picked on up. It's an EVERYTHING disc. It will hold almost every line, and improve almost anyone's game.
Gator - I was torn between this and a Rhyno as both fly very similar. The extra length and hyzer ability makes it a very usable mid range/approach. It's a great wind fighter, and it stays on the ground when thrown. I've found it to be one of the best short range sidearm discs. When you need something other than a roc, the gator can handle the duties.
Aviar - (Heavy / Max Weight) The extra weight helps control the disc for short putts and helps eliminate any putting abnormalities (slight wind, elevation changes, etc) on longer ranges. If you need to have an extreme range putt, then the Roc would probably help more...
Honorable Mention: Epic - Best Overhand available. It doesnt fit in the "top 6" but i couldnt imagine playing without mine. (Although i very rarely need an overhand disc.)
