It pushed the limits of how large a purse can be; hence the title in your own words: "World's Richest Tarpon Tournament". (Hell, even the word 'Worlds' signifies something larger than local. But, of course, you can't have a world-wide fishing tournament. It has to be SOMEWHERE)
Using an outlying data point and referring to it as a typical point of reference is not sound logic. What is the average 1st place purse for such a tournament? Not nearly as much, I'd wager.

Furthermore, you called "shenanigans" based on the OP referencing a guy claiming to have won $5000 at a local tarpon tournament, using the first place payout of a single local tournament payout—and an outlier, at that—rather than the average payout of a series as the basis of your call.
