Sorry for my ignorance, but what is "plotter" exactly? I understand what you mean by hand cutting, but I'm unsure of what u guys mean by plotting.....can someone explain pls?

a plotter is basically a printer that has a blade on moves back and forth while a set of rollers moves the vinyl forward and backward. Both hand cutting and plotters take a ton of work and time and skill to be able to do correctly.

You may take pride in your hand cutting skills it's commendable.

I'm not going into the whole plotter vs. thing. Because it's not about that.

If it was, it would be a different contest.

So, i'm confused where the "spending hours over a lightbox" comes in...

I think it's from when phil said he placed all of the spine peices on by hand. Either way, I resent the fact that because he used a plotter, he somehow spent time or it took less effort than if he hand cut it.

I used a plotter to cut the black outline of my dye, and the vector file for that took me easily 6+ hours to make and then I had to hand cut the peices for each color.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, unless it is a simple stencil the only benefit there is too plotting is repeatability. Each way needs a different set of skills, but both are complex and difficult and one is not better than the other.

He made 2 very good looking professional quality discs, and i'm sure that it wasn't cranked out in a couple minutes, thats not what I was getting at.
