[Innova] Innova Lycan

if the bottom half of the disc was from the coyote the numbers would support that. the coyote is the least like the lycan in every category except diameter. i haven't held the disc, i was just saying it looks like the md2 bottom and i'm not the only one who made that observation. i just think it's funny that he was so zealous in his declaration that the lycan is pure coyote yet the rim numbers say something else.

not zealous, just a fan of using caps to stop the spread of inaccurate rumors. Don't care if you fee like trolling me or whatever your response will be.

Discs don't have to have the same numbers to have the pieces. The bottom and top of this disc are from the coyote. It is not even close to the md2 bottom. The Lycan does not have a bead at all, the md2 does. The lycan bottom is convex in the exact shape as the coyote. The md2 bottom is flat until it hits the micro bead. This is a plus mold coyote w/ a nose spacer.

How do I know all this? I work in the business. Every new disc we get, I put it up next to everything that might be similar to it. I throw the md2/qms religiously, so I know this disc shares none of its parts. You can hand me a blank disc and I can tell you exactly what it is, usually before I even touch it. When I got my FD-Jackyl tester, I was able to name the Archangel piece before I ever compared it to a AA.

well i guess when you take a coyote top and bottom, make it a plus mold and add a nose spacer you get a disc that's very close to the md2 cuz numbers don't lie.

Isn't the Coyote Daves favorite mid? Is he just making the final tweaks to get what he wanted out of the Coyote mold in the form of the Lycan. I am courious is this a slower mid or fast like a buzzz or MD2? It sounds pretty workable can it fill the roll of a workhorse mid?

Those are very rational thoughts mattw. My thoughts exactly. I think they finally got the coyote they wanted with the Lycan. It isn't really a buzzz or an md2. probably what the buzzz ss should have been. You could compare this disc to a lot of other midranges because it has qualities that are visible in the buzzz, md2, aurora ms, coyote, mako, etc. All those mids have similar profiles(not pieces) that create similar flight patterns.

This is neutral glidey mid. It has the control of a comet, but comes out of the hand as fast as buzzz type disc. I could compare it to every midrange expect that falls in the neutral category. It is just another midrange that is good at doing a lot of things, but isn't great at one thing(like the QMS, MD2, etc).

I am going to pick up a couple to try out. My mid range slots in the bag are wide open and its been awhile since I tried anything new from Innova. Thank you for the help zj.

This is the best description for this disc and why I am having such a hard time comparing it to anything. I was thinking of saying its a less touchy comet that enjoys power but that just isnt right either. At this point in its life I wouldnt say it isnt great at one thing. Only time will tell where it excels.

How does it fly on underpowered throws? I ask b/c zj's underpowered throws are probably like my regular powered throws.

I'll sell my last two lycans for 35 bucks shipped if anyone wants them...

Why can't everyone see that this is practically the same disc as the Coyote and is just Innova's way of suckering people into buy a "new" disc. Then go discontinue the Coyote and send it to be only available at the Factory Store for like $20 for a F2. LAME....

Do you own both and are able to compare them side by side? From what I've heard, the Lycan is not a Coyote clone.

Spent a couple hours throwing my new Lycan in the field today. Yes, it *looks* like a domey Coyote in the hand - they're almost identical. No, it is NOT a Coyote and doesn't fly like one. It's an awesome disc and one of the first Innova has released in awhile that is worth a damn. Very straight flier, doesn't want to turn over unless you put anny on it, and slight but dependable fade. Easy distance for a mid and it doesn't need height to get there. Very nice. Throwing it back to back with a star Skeeter, gold Core, and an Axis, it was comparable to all but less apt to flip. It seemed closest to the Axis but with more glide. The Lycan will handle a wider range of power without affecting the flight so much. Compared to the Core, which gives easier distance/more distance and is a little more sensitive, the Lycan might fit more throwing styles and is tolerant of mistakes in form.

Innova still can't seem to weigh their discs, though. This one is marked 177 and weighs a little over 180. Other than that, this disc is a winner and is going in the bag...may even replace my Axis but I'm not sure yet.

Let me say one more time for you chart-watching kids, this is NOT the same as a Coyote. Get out and actually throw one. :)
