PVC disc storage

anyone done this on a larger scale?

thinking of using 1 1/2" sch. 40 PVC but looking at this site to get the fittings for four tiers with center support, the fittings alone would be like 160 bucks... anyone know where to get some of these three and four way fittings cheaper? or does anyone have plans of how far to space the front and back pipe?
Just curious and don't tell me to measure it out, I'm not stupid.

personally, I'd go buy an Ikea bookcase for an exterior frame then use wood from the hardware store (drill large holes to pass the pipe through) for the verticals. Then use your pipe for the horizontals. They also sell 1/2 or full doors, junk storage on the bottom behind a door. Top for a nice row of discs then two display glass shelves. They also have different lighting options at Ikea.

Basically, You can "hack" a billy bookcase and come out with a nice finished project.

This is what we did, the bottom shelf isn't shown, it has a large innova bag, ready with backups for field work or a tournament weekend and towels ect. I just bought an extra shelf from Ikea and full doors.

that's kind of what I want to do but I dont necessarily need doors etc.
my main concern is disc safety (prevention of storage wear) and ease of use as I ship a TON of discs and am constantly shuffling my discs.
I found pricing for 6 tier for 155.40 for the fittings, I know that the pipe itself is dirty cheap and I knew the fittings would be the killer...

any thoughts on padding? I was thinking weather stripping as it comes in huge rolls for cheap and is adhesive.

That is an old picture, I actually stack them on top of each other now. Wouldn't that work better for you also?

What is storage wear exactly? Best orientation to store is vertical right? When I first read this thread title I envisioned a huge pipe cut in half for a shelf. Not sure where to find such a pipe but it would be cool! Mine are all lined up in the trey behind the seat of my truck.

what I'm worried about is storing them vertical and the weight of the disc causing indentations on the wing tip from the pvc...
Found a place to order all of my fittings for just over a hundred dollars shipped.. not too shabby.
I just need to get my pvc piping and cut it to length should be easy from there...

Pipe insulation or pool noodles should give you the protection you need. Just rip it down into quarters and put a couple pieces of two-sided tape down just to keep it from moving around and the weight of the discs should hold it down.

vertical shouldn't create suction which would over time, warp flight plates.

Drivers will eat through insulation and noodles. I wrapped mine in duct tape to help the cause a little. It made a big difference.

Are discs really heavy enough to cause damage to themselves like that? (stored vertically)

I can see the suction thing stacked on top of each other.

^^^Theoretically. Like glass, over time gravity/temperature will cause a sagging effect. With glass it takes several decades, and heat contributes largely. Plastic? Depends how hot it gets where the discs are. Maybe 10 years in 90-100* heat could show some effects. 68* environment? Probably death[ours] before disc-honor.

anyone made one of these and figured out how far to space the two horizontals so the disc won't fall through?

When I stored my discs in totes and suspended them on top of pool noodles, the noodles were spaced 9" from outside to outside. Assuming a 2" noodle, that would put the spacing on your pipes at 7" on center.

They make PVC pipe insulation that is basically a pool noodle split with double stick tape at the seam. I used some to cover my center pole on my basket to dampen chain noise. Keeps the neighbors neighborly.

before cushioning or discs.... longs are 25", supports are 10" and the back to fronts are 5"
