2017 PDGA AM/JR World Championships

Seems shortsighted that PDGA would produce a registration schedule that makes you guess what and where this is. No tournament location, dates, link or contact info. Right.

I guess I should have been a bit more comprehensive in posting more links. I assumed most interested had heard when and where the tournament was being held. Thanks for posting the link, araytx.

Once again it appears to be a "s/he who can type the fastest gets in"; poor IMO.

I've discussed a better way with Big Dog this Fall and he seems interested. No rush to enter would be involved. But too late to implement this year. I'll keep pressing.

From what I understand their intention with raising the points requirement was that the # of elgible competitors would be very close to the # of spots available.

I don't think it worked out the best; however, it probably didn't hurt.

Definitely looks like. Even with the points requirement increase, I'd bet there'll be 5000 qualified.

Care to elaborate on the idea?

I am sure it decreased the number of invites. The PDGA seems to be listening to the issues of its members. Though, I cannot say I impressed by the way they have went about implementing solutions.

Rather wait until say August after we watch the current process unfold again for now three Worlds and see if there's still a need to fix it.

makes sense... I think it'll be same story, third verse.

Be careful what you ask for.

I wasn't really asking for it's implementation, I was asking in order to see if I'd like it, to see if I'd have suggestions, or start further discussion.

I know. I was cautioning you against getting Chuck started explaining it. To make sure you are fully prepared for the deluge.

Good God, please don't let it be another mid season point requirement change. :wall::wall::wall:

Depends on who the new ED ends up being, but I expect that mid-season thing to be a thing of the past now that BG is out. From what I've heard, he was one of the main culprits in not recognizing that mid-season is horrible timing for those kinds of changes. Or at least, that was the impression I got after they made those changes mid-2014 (for 2015 Worlds) and then repeated the error this past summer.

Answer this question honestly.

Do you think that the PDGA powers, currently with an Exec Director, are having serious discussions right now, prior to the real beginning of the 2017 season, about the points needed for 2018 Worlds? Do you really think that's going on right now?

That's your answer.

Given the resignation of the ED, I guess the answer would be no. Does that mean another midseason raise of 2018 World's point requirements? Or does that mean a change to the way sign ups are done? Or a decision to further divide up the AM divisions into separate tournaments? I think there are options. I have a VERY hard time believing anyone would make the decision to raise the points again midseason......but of course, I said that before this summer.

Exactly ... on the points thing. It's a 50-50 proposition at best right now.

Now the divisions thing will be better, because beginning in 2018, there will be no juniors, so Ams will have at least 1 1/2 to 2 more full 72-player pools. We just don't know how it'll be divided up yet.
