2018 PDGA World Championships

There was no spectator value for me watching 27 OB strokes on that top Women's card. I felt bad for them, like they were deliberately placed on a course that would be over their skill level and make them look like rag-tag rec league players. I don't even remember the good shots they showed, it was an avalanche of O.B. Again, no real wind that seemed to explain it. The course is just not designed to showcase the skills they have. It was ugly.
I agree from an old school and former ball golfer's perspective where penalties average 0-1 penalties per player per round on older championship courses, especially those with more trees. However, it seems like newer players who don't have much DG history have a more punitive perspective on course design and like to see the players struggle.

Could they have just played "Sexton" golf? If you go in with the mindset that you're gonna get a 3 or a 4, it's better than a 7. No guts no glory, I guess.

Yes, all the OB made them look bad . . . .but it also made me as a Viewer frustrated that nobody saw the opportunity to play super safe and let everybody else thow away strokes OB

The leader after R4 is at +6 . . safe "pargolf" and you are in a BIG lead. . .glory without the guts ;)

"Sexton" golf is not just a matter of deciding to avoid OB. You have to have the skills to do it while also getting the disc down the fairway a long way. Throwing a putter 80 feet at a time would avoid (most) OB, but that would not be competitive, and thus not Sexton golf.

For FPO, the TD could have easily declared all (or maybe most of) the OB to be Relief Areas. Players would get to move out of unplayably dense schule, would lose some distance when they went "out" (more loss the earlier they went out), but still would have been able to attack the course.

Look at Natalie Hollokoi's stat line in today's round.

On hole seven, none of them to me seemed to be playing super-aggressive, running crazy lines or anything like that. They missed lines, got discs too high and had them fade OB, crap like that. Then in the end when Bjerkaas had a chance at a long putt for birdie to salvage the experience, she didn't run it. She laid up. The top Women's card went 5-7-8-9, +9 with 7 OB strokes on one hole that wasn't especially difficult-looking. It basically was just too long. It flat-out looked like bad disc golf, and it didn't make those women (who are skilled disc golfers) look good at their craft.

That's what I fear for the women's side, that you just put them into situations where the skills they do have are ignored and you force them to try to throw as far as the men. It's not going to end up being a good look. It wasn't today.

So no Ricky or Eagle in top 10 and No McBeth on the lead card going in to the final day at Worlds. . . thats just..WOW

Well Paul shot one of the best rounds ever just a few weeks ago and Paul, Ricky and Eagle has won most of the big ones this year. . what have the leadcard in Worlds done in 2018 year Before this?

I think what we're seeing is how different types of courses played throughout the year favor different physical skill sets and course management ability which only vary slightly at the top level but enough to make a difference over several rounds.

I'm sorry to ask this, but if the players could not control the height of their throw, hit their line, or run birdie putts, what skills were available for display?

Put me in the over-aggressive camp.

OTOH, Pierce threw a 1010 rated round (with 80% C1 putting -- including a Three Putt ;)).

Well, Ricky ain't repeating. And Paul...he's certainly capable of a huge comeback, but I want to see Uli or Barsby take this thing down tomorrow.

Actually if Anthon won...talk about a story that would be.

As far as FPO. I hate to say it, but I think Pierce will win.

+3 was rated 974 for FPO today. . . .Paige P is the highest rated player in the World at 973. . .a litle to hard Courses?

In thinking about the FPO's OB troubles, I can see both sides.

However, like most winners, they didn't get where they are by laying up at every opportunity.

Barsby or Anthon for me

If Innova doesn't rip the Eagle from Kenny and give it to Barsby that would be a freaking crime.

Conrad has had a pretty hot last half of the year, and the other three guys have been putting in the work near the top for the better part of a decade (some almost two) and deserve to finally have that hard work recognized.
