2019 Pros Switching Sponsors Official Thread

Tell us more about this stand up company.

They gave MJ a couple of bags, and JohnE a signature disc. A number of people liked their plastic blends, and one or two molds were positively reviewed.

That's about all the positives I can come up with. Maybe you could add something.

Oh, wait! They had a true innovation with the strapless bag ... didn't work out, but it was fresh.

That would be kinda cool though. Different soles for turf or concrete, or that one muddy hill you gotta climb but you don't want to wear your hikers the whole round. They have them for bowling but I doubt it would really work with the pounding that DG puts on shoes.

Doesn't anyone else find it strange that Discraft has Nate Doss & Valarie Doss Jenkins, the first married disc golf couple that are both world champions, and they (Discraft) basically do nothing in regards to marketing them? Common sense tells me if you had both of those players as a long term asset, you would have them doing (weekly, monthly) marketing promos, video tips, sale promos, etc, etc. Nate & Val are basically nowhere to be found on their website or their facebook page. Surely..a company that could apparently afford to pay the one and only Paul McBeth a million dollars could also afford to pay Nate & Val (which would surely be chump change to Discraft) for their time to make marketing/promo videos, etc. What about paying the Doss's to set up a Discraft booth and showcase their brand at some of the more popular disc golf tournaments? Why not pay them both to actually play and represent their brand at select tournaments? (The Doss's could do this and run their brewery by the way imop.)

So for those saying Discraft has all this money to offer Paul, have his own line of discs, etc, etc, etc, guess what... they already have something VERY special in Nate & Val, something that may never...ever...happen again in disc golf, "A married couple that is both MPO and FPO World Champions".

If all the Doss's are getting from Discraft is free plastic and the potential to make some extra money from their sponsor if/when they cash, no wonder they are putting all their time into making beer.

Discraft has all this money to offer Paul McBeth... nah...not buying it one bit.

Nate has been the face of Discraft for years...signature discs and his face all over their promotional materials (catalogs, posters, website). Val's been on the team a little over a year and in that time she and Nate have severely curtailed their touring and playing. Perhaps their interests and passions have changed. I mean, if it is truly some kind of neglect on the part of Discraft that has pushed them into starting the brewery, and not simply a very strong passion for it, wouldn't they have sought out new sponsors that would better utilize their desire to tour and play golf? It's not like they don't have other options.

"Marketing" is a two-way street. A business can't push an unwilling person to be the "face" of their company. Disc golf isn't life to everyone, even folks who've made their living from it.

They had some decent ideas and in my estimation two above average discs. A lot of sub par manufacturing and some very odd molds.

The main issue people have with them is the intense self promotion while seldom delivering and their owner who was a PR nightmare.

Personally, I had some good experiences with them and my bag didn't fall apart. But whenever I was promised something I got slightly less most of the time.

The American tour event was a tire fire though. It was fun watching MJ, Ricky and Barry go at it but the presentation was not so good. Poor camera angles, and you could only watch on online espn.

Hello friends and fans, here's a statement from Innova Co-founders Dave Dunipace and Harold Duvall:

"We are sad to announce that Paul McBeth and Innova have agreed to part ways as of the end of the 2018 season. We have enjoyed a wonderful, 12-year relationship with Paul that has included 4 World Championship titles, 2 US Championships, 1 Grand Slam season and more than 100 career wins.

It has been our privilege to watch him grow, both as a fierce competitor on the course and as a man off the course. We respect Paul's decision to forge a new path for himself and his family and wish him nothing but the best of success as we continue to pursue our vision for the game…"

Wow. Big day for rearranging chairs up there on the sundeck.
Good for Paul, and his new sponsor on this next phase of growing the sport.

Dis gonna be gud

I don't know if there's enough crows for all of the naysayers to eat

On a more serious note, change is sometimes good. Discraft needed a big name, one was available, and they went and got The Man. I'd wager this relationship will be great for all parties involved, and probably was a very precisely calculated move by both sides. edit: not confirmed discraft yet. same stands for most other companies, though.

Paul got the better end of the deal from whoever his new sponsor is.

Maybe it's not even one company. The number 1 player throwing a mixed bag.

NOW that's growing the sport!!

On an unrelated note, I just recently changed my putter and mid game to be all Discraft. Like a wild animal, did I feel a change coming?

(this post partially made in jest, I don't bag stuff just because a pro does)
