2019 Pros Switching Sponsors Official Thread

This reminds me of when Paul got the Adidas sponsorship. I played a tournament that weekend. Naturally people were talking about it. And of course there was the loud mouth that knew all of the details. He stated that McBeth signed a $1 million contract with Adidas.
Even pros still get funny money. But I don't think he reached his "Million Dollar" allotment.

Where do people come up with these figures?
I'm not going to speculate on Paul's current base salary with Innova, but I'm guessing he doesn't exceed 5 figures.
There are several athletes in major sports much larger than disc golf that do not make 7 figures a year.
Let's keep it realistic.

Based off of Simons interview on Smashboxx, this seems to be more of a way for Simon to obtain a 5 year work visa so he could move to the US. It's 5 years but renegotiated after 2 and 4 years. No money or the contract itself is guaranteed. So save the dynamite for the future and set off the quarter stick.

It's great to see these guys working on contracts and thinking about their personal future, but I don't think we'll see the "7 figures a year" contract for a while.

Why do you think it is not realistic for Paul McBeth to make 7 figures next year? His previous deal with Innova gave him a base salary around $150000 a year. This was before any royalties that he received. His base salary will be at least $250000 a year. Plus he is going to be getting $8 per disc from his new line. If they sell 100000 of these discs then he will be above 7 figures. This is before any tourney winnings.

I assumed you ment off of base salary alone.

When and where has this ever been made public knowledge? When asked, I have yet to hear McBeth or any other pro discuss their salary. I'm not saying you're wrong but I've never heard the same numbers twice.

Let's keep it realistic.

I believe that McBeth's 3-year contract with Innova was worth $500,000.00, which means his yearly salary would have averaged >$166k. That's well over 5 figures.

I'd guess he's making over that in his new deal, but I wouldn't go so far as to say 7 figures per year. If he is getting into a million-dollar contract, I'd guess it's spread out over 4-5 years.

Top athletes in some major sports can even make 8 figures per year. I don't think 7 is out of reach for disc golfers, but we're not there yet. It would require some new sponsors to step in; I don't think a disc manufacturer alone could (or would) afford that right now. They have other priorities for that cash, and the market doesn't require that kind of investment at present.

You can go to Infinitediscs.com and click on Star Destroyers to see the entire inventory that they currently have up for sale. And, at the top of the window there will be a number that shows how many discs there are. Right now, there are 506 Star Destroyers. That number was above 700 at times lately, and it has fluctuated between low 400s and high 600s for two days now. Infinite has restocked Star Destroyers at least twice since Innova's announcement (or, maybe just continuously since then).
I am not privy to the exact numbers. But, based on watching the numbers change I think each line represents 100-150 discs. So, more than 300 discs; probably more like 500. In one day.

This guy knows. ;) And it's higher than that... ended up being around 650 in one day. I'm not allowed to put the sales numbers on the graphs but... a little talk won't hurt. Haha.

Only slightly. As long as terms were agreed to, I could see it greatly benefiting both parties. But I digress.

Also,
'Frisco Open. Lol.

"Frisco" is number 2 on that list, but not nearly as cringey as "San Fran"

What I mean in regards to Innova and Discmania is there's a gentlemen's agreement to not poach each others players. I can confidently say that Jussi would never go after one of Innova's players, much less their #1. Theoretically if an Innova player wanted to switch to Discmania (doesn't really happen, for reasons that are irrelevant and tangential) it would be a really tough sell, and you can bet that Poole and Meresmaa would sit down and talk it out first.

They're not gonna let sponsorship contracts get in the way of their business relationship. That's why you see so very little movement between those two (literally Hannah McBeth is the only person I can think of since the dual-sponsorship concept was scrapped).

Why Jamie? Is it the term "San Fran"? Cause if that is the case, I think you will need to build a bridge on that one.

I didn't invent this, lol. Every city has the nickname that sounds cringey to people that live here - "San Fran" and "Frisco" will make you stand out as a clueless tourist.

Trust me, I said it too before I learned. Just doing a good deed and passing it on.

Here's the cheatsheet (especially for bandwagon Warriors fans :gross:):

Good:
+ "The City" (SF) and "The Town" (Oakland)
+ "SF"
+ "The Bay" (you can say "Area" optionally, obviously this is the region not the city itself)
+ any neighborhood you're visiting "The Mission", "The Castro", "Russian Hill", "SoMa", etc. in lieu of saying the city name.

(anyone singing Journey yet? "city by the bay...")

Bad:
- "San Fran"
- "Frisco"

The list is pretty short. So I might have to sell you that bridge once I'm done building it so you can have a turn ;);)

I'm guessing it's similar to how those in the PNW view the phrase "Pac northwest." They are terms only used by people not local to those areas.

Bingo.

How about San Pancho Open. :D

I don't get it.

Not sure how you didn't just reply to JVD with a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge.

He heard it on Facebook and/or Reddit, so it must be true.

Paul doesn't sell discs... /s

There's no labeled y axis for actual amounts but still....

So 0 and 3? ;)

The hype for the McBeth discs is going to be crazy a couple months from now. I bet it far surpasses the hype for the roc3 when the roc3 first came out.

I don't think Paul's reasoning for leaving Innova is just more cash/salary. He's mentioned he has long term plans, and leaving the premier disc selling company for more cash now is a risk over the long term. I doubt he will move as much plastic with another company as he does with Innova, simply because Innova moves the most. I think at the least he will get a stake in some company or a sizeable lineup of signature discs where he gets a significant cut of the sales.

I assume he is going to Discraft. But the more I think about him starting his own company, the more feasible it seems. Infinite started selling discs online and now have their own molds. Imagine how many Paul could sell. Could he make more money being unsponsored and selling all brands?

I see more that Paul works with Innova to make his own lineup of discs once he starts playing less in tours and during the season. Maybe if he does what Ken Climo did a few years after becoming a Masters player I see Paul Starting a Specialty lineup of discs through Innova the what that Infinite Discs has started doing. Like a Driver that is a beat in Destoyer right out of the box, a Thunderbird and Teebird that are beat in right out of the box as well, finally a more overstable version of a ROC, one similar to a Wasp but in better plastic. Then trying to get his signature discs made in regular production like KC discs when he is not playing as much as he did when in open, if he goes this route.
