Brodie Smith PDGA #128378

Why wouldn't he have gotten in a practice round there?

In the pre tourney interviews McBeth was asked about the 2 course format and he said something about it being more difficult for players to get practice rounds in—don't want to put words in his mouth. Just gave me the impression that it might be an issue for some. Also, seemed like Emporia is a bit of a logistics challenge. Finding place to stay, having to arrive earlier in the week than usual, etc.

But you've been there and done that, so enlighten me if I'm way off.

Two courses aren't that hard to learn. Specially considering they have been using the CC course for a while now. Yes its a little more difficult to sort through, but not much of a challenge to get to multiple courses. And Paul skipped last week so he could be in Emporia earlier, pretty sure the same for brodie. I've never understood the people that struggle to sort out 2 courses when you have multiple days to do it. Granted this event did start on Wednesday which could mess up the players who don't get into town until later, but this is also our job and we have to plan accordingly

I highly prefer 2 or more course layout. It makes watching the coverage a great deal more interesting, especially if you are watching more than one card. I seem to get some course fatigue when watching the same course for every round of tourney and will in turn end up watching less coverage.

I thought it might also be weather issues and/or COVID stuff that could make things more challenging.

Ezra mentioned that one reason he regrets not playing in the DDO is that is is perfect for his game. I recall hearing elsewhere that the DDO is great for the bombers/strong-arm players. Brodie is a bomber/strong-arm player, so maybe that is why he is doing so well at this tournament.
Relative the tops guys this is NOT a Brodie course. We just watched a video about him developing his 500+ power. Maybe in a year. If he doesn't putt he doesn't compete.

Brodie skipped MAO to get in more time in Emporia. That should not be his problem.

He played well at Jones, so I wondered if he just didn't have enough time at CC.

Nbd. I feel like he's proven he is competitive at the pro national level. How far he can take that is to be seen.

MJ...i feel like Brodie struggles with hitting small gaps off the tee backhand with power....being a bigger guy like him ,with a big swing....do you have any one thing to focus on to help in those situations?

I find myself forcing forehands to make sure i make the gap but it doesnt fit the shot. I see this with Brodie too.

https://usdgc.com/qualifying-information/

I couldn't locate how many spots for USDGC are available in this event, where is this information available at? Thanks.

Supposedly there are five spots available at every qualifying event. Not sure why the USDGC page is vague about that.

On uDisc Live, you can click the 'USDGC Spots' slider in the top right, to see everyone who's already qualified. Of those remaining, I think Brodie is tied for that 5th and final spot.

It depends on the course. These courses aren't that great so it is better with two courses. On the other hand a course like Maple Hill is fun to watch for four rounds.

If you are watching multiple cards it is really easy to get fatigued, even with two courses. I did it a couple of times but I found out my limit is watching 18 holes a day, unless someone on the chase card puts down a super good round then I might watch it.
