Do you have a top 10 course list? top 20 . . . top 50?

The knock on Water Works is that there are really no par 4 holes with hole 6 being borderline. It's a great example of a par 3 course even though I do have some issues with some holes. But it's not really a Championship course that truly tests Advanced and higher level players like many of the other courses with high ratings with par 4s and 5s. Again, it depends on what you feel is important in your ratings, and on some player's scales, I can see how it truly deserves a 4 or higher.

1. Deer Mountain, Golden CO
2. Phantom Falls, Pine CO
3. Beaver Ranch, Conifer CO
4. CMC, Leadville CO
5. Copper mt. (RIP) Eagle CO
Why go any further!!!

I'm comin this summer Paul. I mean it. I will bring you some good tasting food since that is about all we are good for. North Louisiana food is much better than south. We have fresh seafood too and we are not all to drunk to cook right up here.:D sorry for the thread jack. I don't feel that I have played enough to make a top ten.

Just curious how is it possible to have a 2.5 and a 3.0 disc rated course higher than a 4 disc rated course? I know rating can be a false judegment, but I know my 4's would all be ranked as higher than any of my 2.5 or 3 courses. Just looking for clarification on what seems to be an anomoly to me.

You are breaking your own rules dude! From the first post: Don't justify it, dont argue it just post it. Lets keep this thread as neat as possible and keep the discussion out of it.

:D

Im not arguing I just want to know if I missed something . . . sorry I did fall into my own trap. I seriously just wanted clarification I wasnt saying it is not ok to do.

It's his favorite courses, not his best. Favorite and best - two different things. You asked for "top". He posted "favorite".

How can "favorite" and "best" be 2 different things when talking about disc golf courses??

"Favorite for what?" or "Best for what?", you may ask.

For what? The purpose for a course is to play on it. "Play" connotes enjoyment. So define what it is you enjoy (maybe benches and signs, maybe beauty, maybe separate men and women and family portapotties, scoring spread, etc.) and assign a rating. That rating should be the same for "best" or "favorite"

I was intentionally ambiguous when I said "top" because top can mean different things to different people. I really just wanted people to say what they felt were their top 10 courses. I guess I can see the point to having a lower rated course still be a favorite, it just might lack teepads, tee signs, be overpacked and busy all the time, but it could be someones favorite course for varying reasons. And dont get me wrong I am not arguing his methods, I just looked at it differently than him, noone is wrong, it is just a different way to look at it. It could be interpreted different ways for different people and that is the beauty of my question.

But the question was top. I viewed my own question to mean the best. But he viewed it as his favorites and that is fine. The are his top 10 favorite courses, not necessarily his top 10 rated courses, and not necessarily the top 10 best. To him it mean his favorites and that is fine.

In the end however for me all my 5's get ranked from favorite 5 to least favorite 5. All my 4.5's get ranked from my favorite 4.5 to my least favorite 4.5 and so on. But I would never put a lower rated course above a higher rated course in regards to "top" courses discussions.

favourite ?= top

Some courses I really enjoy playing (is that the same as favourite?) I do not consider a "top" course. For example, Pine Grove Middle School is a challenging course with a lot of differing holes, but pretty much lacks everything else, i.e. tees are horrible, signs are horrible, not overly attractive, don't play when wet, nor when school's in session, nor when baseball fields are used, etc., but as a local course for me, I always find it a fun challenge!

I have noticed that some people that use this site have a course listed in their favorites that are sentimental favorites that might sneak above a higher rated course. Maybe they learned to play on it with their friends and have great memories. Or if it is an out of town course, maybe there were some really cool locals that you had a great day with and therefore a sentimental fav. It really looks like it when they have a 2.5 or 3 disc 9 hole course in their fav list. Don't know about Valk.

Well, obviously all those things it lacks are not important to you. You are saying (I think) that if this course was far away from you, you would not enjoy it. That seems strange and inconsistent to me.

Regarding not being able to use it when school is in session, that should not be a knock on it any more than any northern course (and even northern Alabama & Georgia courses today!) that you can not really play well when it is under snow.

I can see this point for sure in the best vs favorite argument (at least for the favorites list in peoples profiles......but not so much for a thread like this). I do that very thing in my favorites list in my profile.

For a local course, things like signage, limited availability, miscellaneous amenities, etc. don't matter so much, because I know the course backward-n-forward, can play whenever it fits my schedule, etc., but for a player travelling thru the area, this course could be a very frustrating experience, such as playing it the day after a big rain, while the baseball fields are being used.

I think a "top" course should have good signs, minimize conflict with non-players, things like that, and this course doesn't come close to meeting those ideals, which was the point I was trying to make when I suggested that "favourite" does not necessarily equate to "top".

And, oh, what a miserable winter this year is for us Mid-Atlanticans! (Is that even a word?) Last year between Dec-Feb I managed to play 90 rounds :), and this Dec-Feb, only 24! :-(

I think you have just made a compelling case for why home boy bias exists (even semi- or un-consciously) in many cases.

Attempting make best = favorite in reviews/ratings helps me minimize my HBB.

54 played in 3 states

I've played 54 courses including unlisted, private, and temp courses, these are my top 10 in order.
1. Horse Mountain
2. Birds of Paridise
3. Whistlers Bend
4. Redwood Curtain
5. Zepher Cove
6. Tarwater, I think this was the name of the course, it was a temp course, maby PeterB could make sure that's right
7. North Lake Tahoe
8. DeLaveaga
9. Staford Lake
10. Ironside Classified

...Let the bickering begin. :D

I have a few courses in my fav list that I did not rate high. Rather I gave them their appropriate grade IMO but I still have them on my fav list. I don't think it's hbb unless your rating is inflated. For this list I put down my top courses that I'd like to return to I had to include the places I loved the best my generic list of top 20 courses but my ratings does not capture what I love personally. If anything those of us with discrepencies in our ratings do a bettter service as we rate according to something other than our own pleasure. This thread has made it clear that favorite and top rated are 2 different things for most of us but some of us lump it as one

For me, FAVORITE and BEST are easily separated. This is because I try to rate courses objectively, but I can fall in love with a remote, rundown, exciting experience of a course which may become a personal favorite.

Seems reasonable at first glance, but when you peel back the onion a little one realizes that not many people agree on what is objective - what is truly objectively good or bad (other than the really obvious stuff). So......your "objective" is different from my "objective" which in the end makes "objective" subjective.

So, why not just be straightforward with this reality and be unabashedly subjective? That way people end up really knowing where you are coming from.
