Disc Golf Pro Tour

I know, how dare me. I should know better, especially after the lashing social justice warrior hook nutz laid down on everyone. I guess he's got goons registering now to back his play. ****s getting real.

I'm no more a sir than you are Guy Fawkes. In any case, I am calm. Did you not see the silly emoticon at the end of my text? Surely that is not the mark of someone who is angry.

Proper math would make that first number smaller.

I based that ratio on this PDGA report which states that the membership is 92% male and 8% female. It's been many years since I took a math class, so I may have incorrectly done something while translating those percentages into a ratio.

Hey guys, I was reading the following article on ESPN about esports.

http://espn.go.com/esports/story/_/id/14551519/esports-breaking-mainstream

We always are talking about DG making it "big" with "real sponsors". As I was reading the article, I was very surprised by the following statistic.

"The business of watching gamers play has grown so fast that up to 200 players are making at least $40,000 in prize winnings as professional gamers, according to Tobias Sherman, who heads up WME/IMG's esports operation. And that number is growing. To put the $40,000 in perspective, it's about what the 150th-ranked men's tennis player and 330th-ranked golfer in the world gross a year.

This makes me feel a lot better about DG and the growth we are seeing. Only 330 golfers on the PGA tour are getting 40k in prize winnings a year?!? and 150 tennis players. Granted, the top players earnings in each sport are off the charts, the field of professionals making 40k, a reasonable salary imo for playing the sport you love, is much smaller than I thought.

As others have mentioned, maybe DG doesn't need to be on TV and have sponsors like Nike Puma to be considered a success. I'm excited to be a part of this sport!

The huge surge in the pro Gamer was discussed somewhere... However the Gamers have a huge leg up because you have the likes of Microsoft / Sony immediately involved, with a silent user base that was way established, just took a nudge into the limelight to be an instant "big deal"

in perspective we have 1 player who made 40k+ in event cash for 2015. Hard to say what the list looks like in total compensation for the top people. Also interesting note that in the last two years we've had a breakout in cash to the top players, jumping up over a seemingly stagnant run. Also women making significant gains in earnings. This was fun pulling this data :) I can see this trend continuing, especially with some of the "mega" events like LIS, and the Tours giving the players a good long run of top events to cash at.

In 2015 we had 11 cash 20k+ (2 women, 9 men)
In 2014 we had 7 cash 20k+ (1 woman, 6 men)
In 2013 we had 5 cash 20k+ (0 women, 5 men)

I would look for us to come close to doubling both numbers in 2016. Three women, 15 men. That is my over/under. No real bets, but which side would you bet on?

JMO here but I think that tee would be better with just the "watch." on the back.

In almost all cases, I agree that simpler is better, and this may be yet another case. The one word "WATCH" says so much more than sit down and watch the best in the world, so we get eyeballs on us, making sponsors flock to us. It also says, if you have not been paying attention, you should watch what disc golf is doing. We are blowing it up!

Wow! :D , was I shocked when I checked in on this thread, just now.

I almost ordered the blue one yesterday but I decided to wait till Monday to get it done, now I am glad I waited a bit. Looks like I will be putting my money where my mouth is and ordering my tee and stickers today :p .

Lastly I really did not expect you to change your tees on behalf of my simple suggestion, let alone do up a new version, and I really did not expect it to happen almost over night!

Not looking too deep on the number of expected events and such, I'll take the under by a hair (but rooting for the over). But that's based just based on the numbers below. Last year the Women had:
Paige w/ 31 events and $27.7k
Catrina w/ 34 events and $22.7k
Valerie w/ 20 events and $15.6k
Sarah w/ 20 events and $12.5k
Jessica w/ 31 events and $11.3k

If Val plays closer to 30 events, she's averaging right up there $/event.

The men had 6 more between $14,900 and $19,999. Adding more events and bigger tourneys like the LIS will help.

I just made up the $20k+ number but it's a good story. Another nice and pretty graph is the Sum(Top 20 Cash) steadily rising and this year was $477,070. In part due to the LIS for sure.

McBeth smashed the top cash record this year. Top finishes $40k+ all time:
McBeth ($71,945, 2015)
Locastro ($46,757, 2010)
Locastro ($42,926, 2009)
Wysocki ($42,907, 2014)
McBeth ($42,304, 2013)
McBeth ($40,907, 2014)
Climo ($40,210, 2007)

I like numbers.

I guess it's worth highlighting, there's an awesome chance our Top 20 players will make a Half-Million dollars in event cash for 2016.

I thought Barry cleard 40k that year he won both worlds and the usdgc <2003>

I only pulled data back through 2006, manually. so this data is for 2006-2015. PDGA says $39,851.50 for Barry in 2003

if i pull data with the year filtered to (ANY) it crashes. so i had to pull one year at a time. I wish i could just download the whole database :)
