[Discraft] 2012 Discraft Ace Race Disc

This disc will go into production if there is good reception for it.. The Zeppelin was hated and had not many supporters.. That's why that didn't go into production.

You can call it whatever you want :\ It's wedged between two of the flagship molds in the new Ti line, one of which is touted as the most popular disc in the world. It doesn't seem like a great idea to get attached to this thing. But, if you think it's the cat's pajamas, by all means throw the thing.

Yea, you're probably right. I haven't thrown it but it sounds like a lot of discs already out there.

I guess I was trying to say that there will be a boat-load of these things floating around after the Race. Even if it never makes regular production, a shortage of them is unlikely.

The only hang up is, if you really like the disc, and they don't put it into production; then it will never be PDGA approved for tournaments.

The Zeppelin was approved...so I don't see why this one wouldn't be either. In fact, every Ace Race disc has been approved, and two are not in production. (Nebula, and Zeppelin)

How much does discraft charge a td for each ace race package? and does it include shipping?

And the Slipstream GT (how could we forget :gross:).......and the "flippy glide type disc"...

No the MRV

and that is why you find a good Wasp and keep it....I have had mine in the bag for 3+ years

Mine's been in my bag for almost that long too. I have 5 backups. At this rate they'll only last me about 15 years. I just don't have enough! Now, if the Ti's fly like my backups, there just might be hope. The Vector is a surprising bust as a potential replacement.

$18 plus shipping. Shipping will vary based on quantity ordered and your location. I am in Texas, near Houston. I ordered 22 this year and shipping was about $1.95 per package. Last year I ordered around 80, and shipping was about $1.50 per package.

Ok. Thanks

The reason why I asked is last night the guy that ran the Ace Race in Hickory NC went off on Facebook.

The guy that won only got the bag and 1 disc. The other discs went out to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. The guy that won sent an email to discraft complaining about it and apparently discraft emailed the TD chewing him out.

He then proceeds to say that he bought 10 pizzas and paid for it out of pocket. I knew that it didn't cost $25 for each pack and was trying to figure out if he really did spend money out of his pocket or if he just used the proceeds from each pack sold. There were 30+ people that showed up so even if it cost $21 total for each pack(including shipping), he made $120 right there which should have covered the cost of the pizza.

Got the actual numbers from the people at the tournament...

There were 43 people and he ordered 15 pizzas. Using the same calculations he made $172 on the players packs.

If he's that concerned about the payout, why not ask the TD beforehand?

In an Ace Race type event, shouldn't that guy chill out a bit? The ace Race I attended was much more casual than a tourney...

I think the beef is that the TD did not follow Discraft directions.

Grand prize for each event last year a Discraft merchandise package, including a bag and eight new discs

As a TD, I can definately understand his frustration.

Discraft does have a few rules for the TD's to follow (TD Info), and one of them is that the Grand prize can not be broken up and must go to the top division if there are multiple divisions.

I will not repsond to the fact that it appears he broke a rule, but I will back him that the pizza did in fact come out of his pocket. He may have gross profits of up to $200, but a lot of times there are other costs than just the players packs (park fees, flyers, ice, water, equipment, drinks, etc.....). In addition, he has to put his money up front, and assumes the risk of unsold packages. The final profit that he ended up making, if you calculated the amount of time he spent on the tournament, would probably be less than minimum wage. Furthermore, it was his to do with as he please, i.e. it goes to his pocket. He made a choice, that he did not have to, to take it back out of his pocket and buy the players pizza.

Many TD's end up spending money out of their own pockets. The $5 "profit" per pack goes for expenses like free chilli and drinks, prizes (discs, bottle openers, stickers, whatever) for all sorts of things like longest distance travelled, most people brought to the AR by a driver, worst cap worn, best facial hair, prettiest, oldest, youngest, etc. One TD I know this year is providing a T-shirt for every player in addition to food, drink, and extra prizes. Last year I "lost" $35 on 21 entries in an inaugural AR, but I "found" a ton of people having fun and we all made many new DG friends. Priceless.

It seems that a lot of TD's set up their ace races in different ways and I really like that. I absolutely love the idea that some guys get to throw BOTH discs per hole. That leads to more aces/metal hits and more fun all around. As far as the TD in Hickory, I'm not crazy about the grand prize being split up but I mean come on, the winner paid $25. He received two Z plastic ace race discs, sweet water bottle, cheesy glasses, stickers, a new bag and a sweet super color disc. The td may or may not have even been able to play in HIS OWN TOURNEY. He spent days out there marking and moving baskets etc. Probably with very little help. He bought pizza? Man! and I would be willing to bet a dollar to a donut that if you saw the expenses he had vs the very small amount of $$$ left over after buying the packs that he lost money. And he gets to be chewed out by Discraft because the winner wanted more? I will say I wouldn't have split the discs up but tried to find other ways to have 2nd, 3rd and 4th place win something. But you gotta look at the big picture, he did a lot of good last weekend for the sport and ended up getting ripped a new one. What if he says "screw it, i'm never doing this again?" who wins then?.......................jb

I completely agree.

If the TD screwed up the event, mis-scored peoples rounds and gave the prizes to the wrong person, ya, maybe complain to Discraft. It seems like the TD was trying to share the wealth on the prizes. C'mon, Obama would love this sort of thing :)

If you're a big stickler for guidelines and rules, go play in a sanctioned tourney, not a promotional, outreach type event like this.

The reason why the guy complained is because the td broke the rules about payout.

I would say payout =/= prize in this case.
