2013 USDGC

Why is it important to someone who's not playing? I doubt that informing random people on the internet of their finances is the highest priority for the people actively putting on a tournament (that apparently still has a good enough payout to attract all the top players).

Payout is not the same as finances, no one is asking for secrets of the Innova Corporate Machine.

Maybe if the payout was good, I would have played the USDGC again. Or should I say I'd have been more motivated to qualify (I'm not exactly in the prime of my pro career :) )

Really though, if actual media figures were covering this "national championship", don't you think they would ask how much the players are competing for?

You do realize that the Vibram Open, which has leapfrogged far over the USDGC in terms of quality and prestige, posts its payout well in advance of the event? Probably not, I guess only pro players realize that Mashnut.

Sorry if I offended. Does this mean I will be excommunicated from the cult?

The video coverage has been great! It would be great to crown a new champ this year, maybe one of the Steve's

It really sucks that Barry took an 11 during the second round. An 11! I think it was on 888. Anyway, the lead card looks the same and should be a good battle tomorrow.

Thanks dgptv for the coverage. Much improved, especially the picture in picture. But, come on, no more F bombs in the dead time. Kids are watching. . .it was pretty funny. I heard around 3-4

Boy I'm really gonna take a hit in Fantasy Disc Golf...I never saw Doss and Brinster coming out hot. Just shows what great players they are.

i will agree coverage is much improved from previous attempts and events.

did you guys see it live. i'm watching it and it is like the matrix...Deja Vu!!!

keeps looping and i miss all the action. quality is better but overall still unwatchable for the masses.

mcflysohigh is DELIVERING on the tourny. footage. props to that guy, im not even bothering with disc golf planet.

doss is playing some solid golf, hes my pick to win right now. im sure pmb will sneak up and destroy everyone in the final round as always though.

Nah, he's 16 shots off the lead, that means everyone in front of him would have to choke while he plays his sunday best. I don't see it happening for him tbh

He was talking about Marty McGee's video coverage. Dude's been shooting rounds and editing/uploading by the following morning to YouTube, in HD. He's making DGPTV look like a joke, especially since he doesn't have Sweater Vest and Fake Tan doing the commentary.

^^ this ...

Marty McGees video quality is really what puts disc golf planet tv to shame. I really like what Disc Golf Planet is TRYING to accomplish, but with the proliferation of YouTube, especially users as skilled and quick as The Disc Golf Guy, Mc Fly So High and Central Coast Disc Golf, they are almost fighting a losing battle.

Why is there a "battle" at all? DGP is doing it live. The others are recorded and edited. It's not really a direct comparison or a competition. It's not as though it has to be either/or. They all co-exist.

The DG Guy, McFly, etc are doing very good things. So is DGP. It's ALL good for the sport.

Yea when I watched the play backs later at night they are a loopy mess but when you watch it live it is pretty stellar.

Just did a little experiment to confirm but the "trick" with the archive is the same as with the live stream. If you drop the video quality down to 432p instead of 480p, the skipping goes away and the visual quality isn't noticeably different at all.

I think what is causing the skip is the video stream automatically adjusting the video quality based on the bandwidth. When it gets boggy, it downgrades from 480 but then bumps back up as soon as it can. When watching the 480p archive, the downgrade points are lost because it wasn't recording 480p at those instances. But it was recording 432p all along so there's no loss at that quality and thus a smoother video.

It's not bad for the sport, I will go that far.

But DGP.tv is asking people to pay for a subpar product. I don't think the fanbase is deep enough YET to justify that when there are other free options out there...including their archived playbacks. I tend to watch those, being in a different part of the world and all.

Innovation thrives when there is competition. We've already seen how far DGP.tv has come since the Memorial. They still have a ways to go, but hopefully they keep right on improving.

They're not asking people to pay for anything. Any payments they're getting in the form of their membership is voluntary and not required to watch the show.

The only exception is their Worlds coverage and the PPV charge. I can understand quibbling over that, but I prefer to view that as a wholly separate event from what they do at all the other tournaments.

If we're going to talk about their coverage of USDGC and compare it to DG Guy and McFly, cost isn't a factor. It's all free to watch.

Does the Performance Flight play the same holes as the Open Flight? 'Cause Holly Finley is under par and she's beating a few veteran/top pros. Either they play differently, or that just proves that slow and steady is sometimes better than aggressive. (Such as her layup strategy on 17)

Edit: I just saw her scores, and it looks like it's based off of a projected par, and not actual. Is that right?

Ah, missed the edit window. Ok, so her projected par was 86. Oh well, I got all excited that she was beating Garret Gurthie, and Jay Reading...among others. :p

Either way, she's playing better than projected, so it's still something to cheer about.
