Complaining About Facebook Auctions MEGATHREAD!!!

id pay a couple hundo for a blue and red ion for a thrower.. cant think of anything else oop that i want

I've got an unthrown first run for you at that price:D

Are all the oop discs now being sold on FB? I can't find the sweet discs members would trade/sell for reasonable prices just a year ago in the MP. Nowadays, our MP has discs for sale higher than retail or Buy it Now on feeBay.

Is there a disc bubble? (I don't mean x-outs or Blizzard plastic.)

Unquestionably, yes. Also, I think that the parallels between the current collector market and what happened to comic book prices are to obvious to ignore.

major difference being discs are tools. have you ever tried to throw a comic book? do you buy back ups for your favorites?

Ah yes. I remember when Valiant comics would come out and sell for $200 the next day.

Now they are worthless...like Beanie Babies...and Pogs...and Birthday Pikachu cards.

^ I see similarities but I don't think in 10 years discs that are selling for $20+ currently will only be worth a couple bucks. The sport is still young so people are taking chances collecting considering how much the discs and plastics has changed just over the 5 years. The key is if your collecting/investing is when is the right time to buy and sell. Right now seems to be the right time to sell while other people are taking risks and buying them hoping they will be worth more in 5-10 yrs.
For example, 1st run whippets are going for around $80. My friend recently bought 4, 1 to throw and 3 to collect. I personally don't see them going much higher in price since everyone's going to hold onto them and at that price its already borderline overpriced.

I think facebook also shows that there are other collectors out there! so you aren't the only crazy one.

Yeah i def think there is a bubble look at wasp tooled buzzzes. they def are down in value from the 10th year.

problem i see is companies are producing a lot of discs at the 20 or 25 dollar point and people are paying!!! seemed to start with the glow gators that are now back to regular price pretty much.

When idiots drool over a wiped Star Valk that has a single color Huk Lab faux tribal design for $30, I'm not surprised by what true collectors might pay.

I think the facebook groups are getting big because the rules are different than the marketplace here, and there is no fee like eBay, and some people prefer it that way. They can just slap a disc up with "make an offer" and see what happens.

I honestly think that when the Marketplace here switched to the rule that sellers must post an actual price, many started listing their disc prices stupid high on purpose and then settling for a lower offer. This artificially inflated prices because if they sold a disc listed for $80 at $62, they never posted the actual price it sold for. So everyone else thinks that disc is now WORTH $80.

I made a thread like this awhile back and got made fun of... glad there are other people that believe the same thing as I do. Its getting rediculous. 80 bucks for a beat to H*ll SE Rhyno.. yea riiiiight. or 55 bucks for a Beat up Proline Leopard with a bunch of Ink in it.... RIIIIGHT

Why must you crush my child hood! (Except the last one not familiar with that)

My brothers fell for comic book and sports card collecting, two David Robinson rookie cards are the only items of value. I fell for pokemon cards and pogs, I got one card worth some money. I doubt we'll ever get a return for our investment.
Also collections gain value as the items become more scarce or sought after. Think about that next time you spend thirty bucks for a Proto/BB Roc3 that everyone else is stashing in their closet.

Which is just absurd! My favorite is people asking MORE for a stock disc that you can order from just about ANY online vendor for less s/h included.

New and used 11x Tbirds and old flat Valks are the only discs I throw that are expensive. New 11x Tbirds have nearly doubled in price over the last two years. I don't see them getting any cheaper anytime soon.

I dunno where you guys are seeing the high prices on stock discs, but I've been finding the complete opposite. Other than things like super-sexy GL, transitionals, or things with obscure followings like lightweight Rivers, I expect to pay less than retail in the MP or the Facebook groups. A 9/10 premium disc that has been on the market for more than a month will rarely go for more than $10. It sucks for the seller since they're also eating the shipping, but it's just the nature of current prices.

I tend to agree with this. Their should be a poll thread about the percentage of discs in your bag that are over 25$ new to replace.

Can anyone here name a single thing that is a valuable collectible today that was produced as a collectible from the get go?

Those of you buying these limited runs at retail and then trying to sell them for 2-3 times what you paid for them hoping you can get one sucker to bite are really playing that pretty smart.

Famous poker saying:

"If you sit in on a poker game, and you don't see a sucker at the table...get up. You're the sucker."

Scarpfish's point is what I was alluding to when I was talking about the parallels between disc golf and comic books - prices went to sh*t when the product was produced and marketed (in vast quantities) with the intent of being collectible. Other than the random Facebook cat fight over a rare color, 10yr Buzzzes and star stamped Roc3s are readily available in the mp, for at or below retail prices. Signature line discs at least have the marginal benefit of funding your pro of choice, but that doesn't make them inherently valuable in my mind.

In both worlds, the original collector items will still hold a significant amount of value, but how much remains to be seen. They're never making CE again and even if they did, it wouldn't matter. The collectability of the old stuff has taken on a life of it's own and is about much more than the performance of the plastic. The big question is whether the influx of new players, and subsequent disc junkies that are produced, is enough to drive up the demand and keep prices high.
