Best portable speaker for music during a casual round?

I recommend a nice set of earbuds...because not everyone wants to listen to the same music

Seriously, you are a giant d bag if you play music on anything else beside headphones/earbuds.

THANK YOU, Conor.

Seriously, guys. Luckily I don't see it much around here since I stopped playing the local pitch and putt, but it is an issue. Keep in mind, most courses are in public, multi-day areas. Have a little common courtesy. I'm shocked by how many people have thrown out answers, while being the same type of people who constantly talk about "growing the sport"

My suggestion for "rocking out with your buds during a game of frolf" is psych yourself up in the parking lot before hand
Your car has way better sound than any portable speaker ever will. And you can keep the doors closed for a richer, more complex sound.

Yes to all of the above.

i don't mind a portable speaker for casual rounds and i think people who get worked up about it should relax. we're disc golfing. i hate it when people with death metal start rocking out two holes in front of me and i can hear it a mile away, but whatever. i've got my own music too, so fair enough. i just don't like screaming or rock while trying to chill out and have fun, it's like "I AM SO ****ING RELAXED RIGHT NOW CAN YOU TELL HOW HARD I AM RELAXING??!?" and i always ask people in my group if they mind first.

as far as 'phones go, obviously a straight set of cans isn't gonna sit on your head while discing so that's a silly suggestion, but there are very many expensive, wonderful sounding IEMs with multiple drivers, custom fitting, etc. IMO, monster turbine coppers (no, not the original or golds or miles davis tributes) are a good bang for buck if you can find them for the 150$ price point instead of their inflated 350$ MSRP.

i hate monster for the most part, but the coppers are very good value at that price point, especially considering monster's "one time, no questions asked" replacement. good if you tear them up eventually.

anyway, back to the subject, i use my phone to play my music. it stays in my bag so it's loud enough for me, quiet enough for anybody else.

I'm not going to get biblical with people who want to bring speakers out on the course, but this bears repeating...

the majority of the time the guy who has the music and speakers...

Has horrible music.

The needlessly dubbed in music I hear on so many disc golf YT videos is just proof of this.

Headphones and earbuds were invented for a reason folks.

i dont get how a lot of you all's concentration skills are so poor that somes music can create such a disturbance in your game

so do most of you avoid playing courses that have somewhat busy roads by them as well?

Nothing to do with concentration or disturbing our game, it's just ****ing annoying. No less annoying than a car rolling by (on or off the course) with the stereo cranked and the bass thumping so loudly you can hear it a block away despite the car windows being up.

Just because it doesn't affect my game doesn't make it any less annoying to hear.

i dont get why so many people are so pissed off by this? i would hate to see some of your day to day stressors and how you complain about those then.

Who's pissed? People can find something annoying and speak their mind about it without being raving mad. There are many things I find annoying in this world, and have no problem speaking up (and against) a good number of them, but none of them are derailing my day to day life in any significant way.

It's not that big of a deal, but it's a little annoying.

If someone is really just interested in listening to music while they play, they would use earbuds, which offer superior sound with much less hassle.

People who play music out of speakers, especially while playing solo, do it because they think it's totally awesome and "hey look at me!" If you're by yourself and you're playing music out of speakers, you are an absolute attention whore.

I'd like to offer a polite opinion:

For some people (and I'm one of them), one of the big draws of disc golf is to get out in nature and experience some peace, away from the constant busy-ness of our lives. Getting on a course and focusing on one shot at a time, one hole at a time, is cathartic. It's a quiet retreat, if you will: a walk through the woods, occasionally stopping to throw a disc.

This is why loud speakers come across as annoying - they defeat part of the point of going out to play disc golf in the first place. It's not so much a matter of music choice as it is about the method of enjoyment.

Well said.

I guess I'm just begging for attention from the birds then. It is always fun though whenever this topic comes up. Here's my take on it, rude people are just always rude people. Oh and people who say someone who listens to music should just quit disc golf, well… they ARE pissed off about the whole issue.

Who said that?

The best portable speaker will be one NO ONE can hear! I don't care if you like good music or crap, it doesn't belong on a golf course!!! Get a clue, ppl. You with the music playing need to learn common courtesy and course etiquette, or just quit playing altogether. I can't believe this is even a thread on this site. What a joke. When you are out there playing with your lame music on, just realize that no one out there likes it even if they don't tell you so. Do you also throw on holes where others are already playing, or let your dogs poop all over the course without cleaning up? Because its obvious you have no idea how to be a good fellow golfer
Unbelievably Lame Thread!!

There ya go

Man, for a bunch of hippie stoners, you disc golfers sure get worked up about stuff.

The OP didn't ask your permission to play music on the course. He asked for advice about speakers when doing so. Did he ever mention other people being on the course, or his preference to enjoy nature? No. So until he comes in and gives the details of his playing situation, why not pump the brakes a little bit and answer the question at hand?

As to that question: UE Boom. As Um... attested to earlier, they are durable and jam nicely. He thoroughly convinced me to buy one just by playing with him while his music was on.
