[Innova] Innova Whale

This is not necessarily true. There are plenty of injection molded parts that utilize rotary platens, we use them on a daily basis at the company I work for. There are videos floating around that show MVP using two different molds, but that doesn't mean it's the only way to mold a two-shot disc. I really need to put a technical thread together...

Yes, yes, I know. We also used them at my company. Then we got smart and realized it was easier and more cost effective to use separate machines. Lower scrap, and much, much more efficient. I doubt MVP or innova is using rotary molds. Not enough demand for the product. I produce more parts on one machine in one week than any disc company produces all year long.

On another note, the Whale sounds fun. I used a P2 for a bit, but it was not for me. Maybe this will.

I have to disagree. Sure the PD & Thunderbird molds are similar but PDs have more of a forward fade. I bought a few Thunderbirds in hopes of being able to replace my PDs. My Champ Thunderbirds just can't compete with my C-PDs.

Agreed, from the small sample size I've seen thrown by peeps who throw as far as, sometimes farther, than myself, it is not near as hss as a good spd or cpd.

Anyway.

Looking forward to throwing this and making lots of jokes on the course.

Also, with something the size of a disc, I am almost positive it is a two step process. Multiple years in injection molding. After you get past a certain size, it needs to be completely cooled before over molding. Argue if you want, but I am a quality engineer and am pretty positive I am right. Just like I have always said, discs, due for o cost, will never have the consistency we expect. If they did, they would be 30-50 a disc.

I just read that after this initial release in XT they'll be releasing production runs first in G*, Star and Starlite; then later in Champ, Blizzard and Dx and finally in KC Pro, McPro and RPro. So it looks like they're releasing the whale in pods.

The flight sounds much closer to a slower Nova then P2, so not sure why McBeth would replace his P2 with it. Fade of a putter means it won't be really beefy and it's slow.

I haven't thrown a Dagger but it will fly very similar I bet.

Not saying it's going to fly like one, but P2 do not really fade all that much IMO. They're listed as a fade of 1 for a reason.

I know they don't but they are quicker then the Whale with it big fat nose, the Whale won't fly as far nor will it be as good in the wind due to that blunt nose. I think it will be a better short upshot disc and putting putter. I believe McBeth generally uses his P2 as a driver/headwind upshots/etc which doesn't sound like the strength of the Whale.

Another reason why McBeth may have dropped PD's is money. He needed a new Signature disc. What could he pick out of his current bag that would make him good money? The Thunderbird came out and boom, perfect disc as a Signature disc. Nova's don't sell that well, Thunderbirds? Krait was kind of a meh option last year. Money in the bank. The P2 is a signature disc already also, so it makes little sense for him to drop that in favor of a non signature disc.

idk if you were serious or not but innova must think this disc is goin to be the next best thing since the aviar if theyre running it in that many blends

Innova is probably tired of the pros throwing the P2. Mcbeth is the face of innova in the tournaments and if they see a need im sure this will address it. The whale seems to be comparable the P2 as Thunderbird to PD (enter circlejerk) and they know that if Paul puts it in his bag people will flock to the disc.

Free Willy has been out for years. I think it's available on VHS

Seriously this does sound interesting. If its super beefy they should have called it the Cow. That would've been awesome

Beadless driving putter. Stable without being overstable. Pure, P2, PA2, Warden, Anode all have a touch more stability than a P&A Aviar making them ideal for this kind of thing. I'm personally more a fan of the relatively shallow Pure (in Opto) but they all hit that spot.

Ever thrown a Champ Aviar? What you're describing exactly. There's no gap.

:confused:there is a gap there

No.

haha agreed. or the Bull. a little cooler. haha, but yeah, im set on my disc selection, I went through another cycle of re-evaluating what I have/need.

A REALLY slow disc wouldn't be a bad option tho, haha

i may check these out

This looks just like the UB LEX with an added big bead. I swear these are the same molds. Interesting to see Innova going down the large PnA road. I really don't see this disc being a hit with the newb masses but folks online may enjoy it.

ew it does look like a PA4, if it flies like one, count me OUT.
