While I understand why some people don't like tournaments, their arguments could apply to anything in life.

"No, I don't go to concerts. The ticket prices are too high and they rock for too long. You know how many different bands I can listen to at home in the time it takes to sit through a concert?"

"I don't like to go out to eat. When you factor in the drive time, the time spent waiting for the meal to arrive, the time it takes to eat and then dessert, not to mention the cost, I could have made some ramen and binge watched season 4 of Veep"

Bad examples, neither one takes all day.

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. I enjoy the competitive aspect...not only against the other entrants, but against myself, and bringing out my best.

I also played men's softball for many years, and we had tournaments nearly every weekend (we weren't a big traveling team, but we did quite well locally). Compared to that, DG tournaments aren't that big of a deal, in either time or money.

Personally, I would rather play with the people I want to play with, at the courses I want to play, when I want to play them (without paying anything).

Well, I did say maybe you get some interested spectators out of that group. :)

It's no guarantee, of course. The benefit of spectating over playing a tournament is the individual is in control of their time commitment (they can come and go on their own clock) and their costs (spectating is typically free). The downside is they're not playing when they could be playing, which is probably a deal breaker for the majority.

Very true. I spectated at the 1999 world championships final 9 in Rochester with Russell, Climo, Stokely, and Schultz. It was cool to see, but even with that caliber of players it was boring after 20 minutes or so. I ended up grabbing my discs and played a few holes behind the action .

really starting to burn me out, i love tournaments, but people complaining about players packs, payouts, extra holes and just in general being i want a return on my investment people. I was part of the problem for the first couple of years i played, not gonna lie. I now have more disc than i will every throw at this point and i just want to have fun and compete. Players packs are cool but not what i play for. I started playing advanced with my 897 rating and i now have more fun. I can compete with a weak field but mostly i like the company and playing with better players.

can't wait for january and masters. I can then get beat by people my own age.

so tired of hearing i play my rating. i could easily play my rating and wreck the rec division but it doesn't excite me beating people i should beat(at least in my head). Test yourself people, you might surprise yourself.

To be fair, it would be more comparable to going to a concert, but the band takes a 2 minute break after every chorus or solo, and a 10 minute break after every song...

I don't necessarily disagree with most of your statements. A tournament round doesn't really take that much longer than throwing with three or four buddies at a local course on a weekend afternoon. I'm assuming a lot of the people complaining about round lengths like to play solo, or in two-somes.

if you're really slow that's possible. a regular foursome that i would play in would finish in about half the time of a league round and clearly even smaller portion of a tournament round

If I were to run a tournament it would be threesomes only with tee times. That would kill the lag time significantly.

I voted cost. It's not that I can't afford it, but I have way too much plastic already and am not good enough to play Open, so spending money for the chance of winning more plastic seems silly. When I was really into the game around 2008-2009 I did play a lot of tournaments, which is one of the reasons I now have so much plastic. I do still make a couple of tournaments a year.

i would just rather play six different courses in the time that it would take to do two tournament rounds with a break in between

somewhat. slow tournament players would slow it down quite a bit still

Personally i don't like playing early. Its a weakness of my tournament play. I try to wake up and eat and all that stuff but my body hates breakfast.

Next time im going to run a mile before the event starts. Thatll make me wanna drink and eat and i hope get me moving right.

It really sucks to play half a round with your body saying im still asleep and being sluggish.

I literally live out in the BFE. As of right now, there aren't any weekly leagues for me to join let alone tournaments. Not to mention, I'm still pretty new at the game. I played competitive soccer for a decade, and I do enjoy good competition from time to time. I plan on moving back to the metro Detroit area by December. When the weather starts to get nice again and I get better at the sport, I wouldn't mind doing a couple tournaments during the season.

That would be a good format for a fun unsanctioned tourney. Only problem I see is that by cutting down to three-somes, you will have less money for players packs, payouts or any other expenses. I don't see the benefit of tee times since everyone starts at the same time anyway.

If you run tee Times you don't have pileups on tees. You could actually run more people through a course using tee times because you are not limited to 18 holes to fit people on. Of course the last group would finish later than a traditional shotgun, but the actual time on the course would be way less.
